Todd,

I just snuck a look at the results: the first female finishers came thru mid 15s??? Holy ****, that's unbelievable.
<HR>

LOL! No, they get a two minute head start. I caught all but the winner.

Re: Training summaries week ending 6/17
Thanks for the congrats, Dave. Good run for you too.

Mon - 17.7m moderate (6:33). Cruising and feeling good through about 14m, and then bonked due to dehydration on a hot day.

Tue - biked 16.1m to work, then did 10.5m comfortable (6:38)
p.m. - biked 16.3 home easy.

Wed - 11.5m easy on the treadmill, w/ a very sore calf muscle

Thur - (p.m.) 9.5m easy (6:28) w/ some strides toward the end

Fri - 6m easy (6:56)

Sat - Mount Washington Race. 7.6m at 11.5% avg. grade. 7th overall in 1:08:17. Data/comments from the log:
6:47 (.9m)
8:29
9:01
32:32 at 1/2 way
9:06
9:42
9:30
9:32
6:07 (.7m)
35:45 2nd half
I ran it pretty smartly. I got out in decent position, and was probably around 20th when the ascent started (after a minuted on the flat). I'd guess I was in 14-15th at the mile, and probably 9th after 2m. I got Tilton at the 1/2 mark, and finally caught Morse around 4.5-5. From there it was just putting one foot in front of the other and trying (unsuccessfully) to not look at my watch too much. For about 20 seconds after finishing I felt like death
(about 4.8m of warm-up/cooldown, and a nice dip in the river afterward)

Sun - 16.1m comfortable (6:44). No ill effects from the race, and this felt relaxed.

Total: 83.8m running and a good race. Plus another 32m on the bike, and I think the recent biking helped at the mountain.

Cheers Todd!!! Thanks for the great RR -- fired me up for the week
Best wishes Mainers and Laker this coming weekend. Excited to hear of it!

Not so hot a week for me. Exams, tired, etc: the math is easy. Didn't get nearly as much in as I had hoped. On a more positive note, however, the knee/hip is doing well with treatment and increasing distance, though still pitiful, feels good.

Re: Training summaries week ending 6/17
Tusca, I forgot to report on my half. I ran 1:24:45, not good at all. It was not hot but very humid, but I was still hoping to run 1:22. I was with a pack of 4 other guys through 7 miles at 6:20 pace, but we were working too hard at that pace to really push it from there. I tried to pick it up to 6:15 pace but fell apart before the 10 mile mark. The last 3 were ugly. It felt like I was jogging. I ran a little faster than that in October and have run a lot of miles since then, but it apparently didn't pay off. The half in October was 38 degrees so maybe that is the difference.

I started out conservatively and worked into the 6:20 average by mile 7, so it wasn't a case of starting too fast. I really think I am cut out for the shorter speed races rather than the longer stuff, but I will keep at it.

Ah man, sorry to hear it didn't go your way. The temp difference does make a difference IMHO plus, you've been racing a bunch recently, no? Might be a time for a few weeks of training sans racing (or it could just be me projecting ).

However it goes, keep putting in the miles and work. You'll get there soon enough.

Re: Training summaries week ending 6/17
Still working on speed-

Sun- brisk 5 miles
Mon- off
Tues- 5.5 miles with 14 x 200m hill intervals
Wed- brisk 6 miles
Thurs- 8.5 miles including 6 x 1200m intervals (am); 5 miles (pm)
Fri- off
Sat- brisk 12 miles

Total about 42 miles for the week plus calisthenics for strength training.

Great races everyone! Most of you missed it but obsessor's reference to his "long run along Lake Superior" was actually a marathon PR for him at Grandma's! If he won't toot his own horn I'll do it for him! Great job in hot weather!

Good luck to those racing this weekend.

Re: Training summaries week ending 6/17
Grandmas was a less than ideal day - high 60s or low 70s at the start and low 80s at finish - So Obsessor cranking a PR was the only cool thing that day.

Only one workout? What's the matter with you, you'll never break 2:30 that way ...

Seriously, though, awesome race, especially considering the weather.

Re: Training summaries week ending 6/17
Hahaha! It was as fun as any marathon gets. So many guys were going for OT times, I just backed off a few secs a mile, and that's it, about dead even splits. But it sure was a good workout. The scary thing was passing the half about 30 seconds after my HM PR, and holding on... but I just knew I was in shape... Given the day, I can't complain about not breaking 2:30, I'll shed no tears on that one. Whoever wasn't there just doesn't know - it was quite warm.

Training straight through this one, with very little in the way of taper, I just didn't hammer it. Feeling far too good right now, resisting the urge to get on the track today.

I'm pretty excited about this fall.

Mainers...if you catch this thread again before Saturday night...

How would you rate this course compared to the Twilight 5K we ran back in May? (Since you ran it recently) No doubt it's gonna be hot and humid tomorrow night.....
