Re: Training summaries Aug. 13-20
Dan,

Nice week, sir, nice week.

For me, it's been an absolute sh*tfest, and I'm really bummed. To make a long story short, I've been dealing with patellar tracking issues for the past couple weeks. Talked w/ the sports medicine doc and he asked me what changed: when this all started, it was a change in shoes. I stopped using the shoes, and there was minimal improvement, but now, I can't get things back to normal.

The major problem is that my gait's all fcked: I'm favoring my good leg until thing loosen up, usually not until 5 miles in. The doc and PT said it was okay to train thru, but after a botched tempo attempt, I simply said screw this and took a few days off.

Week total: a suck-*** 29.

My PT and Sports Doc thinks this is a 2-3 week injury, but everything I've read puts it longer. Anyone know anything about this injury? Right now, I'm going to PT 3x a week and Xtraining by doing pool running 2 hrs. per day.

Also: on the off-chance the docs are right and it's 2 weeks of downtime, how much fitness will I lose if I cross train hard?

Ack, this sucks!!!! Please keep me motived with your kickass weeks of training!

Re: Training summaries Aug. 13-20
Sorry to hear Tusca, I'm sure it's nothing major you just need to keep patient... As far my personal experience in XT-ing - it definitely helps! When I was rehabbing from knee inflammation I beat myself up on a stairmaster and I felt it definitely helped when I got back. Also, nice week Dan...

S: AM: 15.5@6:58 - nice and easy
PM: 4@7:19
M: 9@6:19 - wisdom teeth were killing me
T: 9@6:24 - tried to keep it even and easy
W: 11@6:39 - Weather didn't help - very hot and humid made this tough
R: 7.2@6:28 - Mentally/Physically exhausted - didn't have it today
F: 4@6:09
S: 6@8:00 - Warmup on treadmill + full weights
8.5@7:20

~74 for the week - feeling strong. Averaging 67m over last 5 weeks - few more weeks of heavy training until racing season

Re: Training summaries Aug. 13-20
Great week, Dan. That's amazing and right on time for the marathon. I take it that 11 miles easy is 90 minutes of running?

Tusca, tough break, but I think those 100-mile weeks aren't going to leave you as quickly as you think.

I might as well post mine, since I just ran a big 5k PB. I even ran 30 miles on Wednesday/Thursday, just like the big boys.

AUGUST 13 ? AUGUST 19

Monday ? off
Tuesday ? off
Wednesday ? 4k am, 16k pm with 8k rosedale tempo in 31:12 (15:41/15:31), felt a little awkward but ran very strong
Thursday ? 6k at 3 pm, 21k at 7 pm, very tired afterwards
Friday ? 6k
Saturday ? 13k, five strides, felt recovered
Sunday ? 5k in 17:44, splits of 3:32, 10:33, 14:11, rusty start without strides, ran very strong, good kick. 800 m time trial in the evening in 2:26 (73/73).

85 km

Nice weeks Dan, Dave. Congratz on the PR Aurang! Sorry to hear of the issues Tusca... don't worry about losing fitness in two weeks with cross training. Cardiovascular conditioning doesn't disappear so quickly, particularly with stimulus. You'll bounce right back

Bad week for me as well. My right ankle decided to tighten up hard late the week before last, and as a result my warm-up tfl+piriformis tightness became a cramp that never abated. I struggled through the treadmill runs early in the week, and then couldn't finish them altogether. I tried running on a track rather than the treadmill which helped significantly yet not enough. Then hit a nice fieldturf field. Most forgiving, wonderful surface. Started aggresively working my ankle, hamstrings, tfl+piriformis. LLDs are no fun. Determined to make this week stronger. Net ~60k.

Re: Training summaries Aug. 13-20
tough break, Travis. You will be fine tusca - probably give your speed a bump when you come back. Nice looking week, Dan. I was planning on taking a down week this week, but my legs truly forced me to take it last week.

M: 5 mi. ~ 40 min. very tired. took the afternoon off
Tu: 5 mi. ~45 min. now a little worried - another afternoon off.
(normally would not get worked up about easy paces, but the legs felt very heavy and unresponsive.)
W: 3&stretch, in morning - much better.
W: pm - warmup, 3xmi. @ 5:07 avg. C.C. - (fastest C.C. workout yet.)
Th: 3.
F: 9 easy.
Sa. off!
Su. 8 intervals @ 2:25, fastest 223, pace slipped on 6,7,8... ahhh well...with warmup and cooldown...

about 50 miles for the week. Certainly not worried this will hurt my fitness. It will only help. My wife was shaking her head as I came through the first c.c. loop in 5:05 on Wednesday. It was 20 seconds faster than the same workout in the same week last year. (wheeled loop.)

Next week: should have some good stuff to report.

Re: Training summaries Aug. 13-20
Get better Tuscaloosa.

M-8.25 miles easy 6:56 avg
T-6.25 miles easy 6:39 avg
W-10.25 with 4 mile tempo 5:39 avg, felt a little fatigued.
R-10.25 easy 6:39 avg with 10X~150m sprints incorporated.
F-off
Sa-3 mile warmup, then 10K race in 34:17. Took it out easy gauging to make sure I won this one; so wasn't set up to do anything special so finished it as a strong tempo effort. cooldown for 12 miles total.
Su-14 miles easy 6:53 avg, cut 20 short due to possible dehydration issues.
Total for week: 61 miles
--Volume still blows, but overall running much better and feeling decent most of the time. I still felt weak in the second half of the race despite never putting in a hard effort, so clearly I'm still recovering and need to be careful how hard I push it. Recovery time from workouts still LONG.

Re: Training summaries Aug. 13-20
Tuscaloosa, hope things shape up soon.

Week was a wash running-wise, but I had a 7 pound 9.7 ounce bundle of joy to console me about it:

Mon 3 easy recovery from HM on sun
Tue wife in labor at 6:15 am - Riley Todd "Hubitrino" Hubisz born at 10:57 am.
Wed off
Thu off - back home from hospital
Fri 8 EZ
Sat 10 brisk (temperature was awesome - mid 60's)
Sun off

21 miles, about 40 diapers

Time to find out how to incorporate consistency as I get used to these new responsibilities.

Re: Training summaries Aug. 13-20
Mon - 5 ez to moderate (6:58)
Tues - 5 ez to moderate (6:53)
Wed - 5 ez to moderate (6:49)
Thurs - 5 ez to moderate (6:52)
Fri - 5 easy (6:41)
Sat - Off
Sun - 9 mile death march, achilles extremely bad

An odd week. My easiest run was my fastest. Then it seemed taking a day off caused my achilles to lock up. I kept thinking they would loosen up during the 9 miler, but they didn't. Afterwards, it looked like I had a golf ball embeded in each heal. The swelling is a little less today, but I'm going to take a few days off anyway to make sure they are under control.

I thought they said edurance training negatively affected testosterone and therefore decreased fertility

Congrats Hubitron! May you see adequate sleep again in 3 months....

Su: 16, first 11 at about 7:30 pace and last 5 around 8:00 pace. Is it obvious I ran the first 11 with a friend who is way faster than me? Took me about 2:00.
M: 4 recovery on treadmill
T: 9, with 10k tempo run at 6:15 pace. On tempos of longer than 4 miles, I am trying to run at goal HM pace.
W: 6 recovery
Th: 4 easy with strides
Fr: 6 easy
S: 4 a.m. with 2xmile, 5:48 each (goal 10k pace); 5 p.m. with last mile in 5:48.
Total: 54

My Saturday track workout got messed up. I had to cut the morning session short due to kid issues, so I wanted to get a third fast, 10k effort mile in and therefore finished the afternoon run with it. Racing a 10k next Saturday the 25th, but weather is suppposed to turn very hot and humid by the weekend. I was planning on running it hard, but if it's that hot I will run the first half slower than 6:00 pace and see how I feel.

You know, the only running dream I have these days is this recurring dream where I run way off course during a race, and I end up inside buildings, running up and down stairs, trying to figure out where the race course is supposed to be...

Thanks for the congrats guys.

AndyHass, I'm ashamed to admit I was a little proud of myself for conceiving the baby during some of my highest mileage weeks last winter.
