...i'll play....in base phase so workouts tend to be very contreolled

...previous 2-3 weeks have been good base building with 'aerobic fartleks', the odd easy/controlled hill session, but oddly enough no pure tempo runs ( i wanted to enjoy my buildup so replaced tempos with fartlek style tempos) and consistent 175+ km weeks (taking advantage that i am a teacher don't go back to to school til...today ;-( )

mon: am: 34 mins pm: no pm as travelled and exhausted from watching the crazies run, bike and swim for hrs and hrs and hrs (watched ironman canada the day before)....also first real easy day in about 3 weeks
tues: am: 35 pm 70mins
wed: am 1 hr 40 pm 33mins
thurs: am: 32 mins pm: easy hill session (35mins)
Fri: am 34 mins pm 70mins
Sat: am: 'tempo fartlek' 3 x 15 min accelerations off 90 sec jogs (done as 5min increments and ended up at tempo pace the last 5mins) pm 45mins
Sun: 2hr 34 mins

somewhere around 180+ kms/110+ miles (i am canadian eh!)

Denton,

Can i ask you something: I noticed you posted the time of your workouts: your overall volume was 110/180, but your overall weekly time is at about 11.5 hrs. When I hit the 100s--and proceeded to get dinged--I was at about 14 hours of running, which turned at to be too much. When you're (or others here) are training, do you have a cap on the overall time you'll run for a week? Do you hit your high during your base phase or your event specific phase?

Re: Training summaries week of August 27
I don't worry about total time. I figure there is not enough variation in my pace between weeks, even between a base week and a specific week, for there to be a breakdown in the correlation between time and total mileage. You can go with either one and I like mileage, personally.

I rarely let the total mileage number dictate what I do either. I train what I think I can handle, and if I think I can handle more I do more. I report the mileage number but try to stay away from that being the focus. The last time I focused on that was a mistake, ran nearly 130 miles in a week and that was the last time I got over 100...been "downhill" since...

Just a side note --- I wanted to comment on my appreciation for everyone who has jumped in and helped revive this weekly thread over the past few months. It was nearly dead for awhile. It is very motivating to see what everyone is doing and I enjoy following everyone's goals and accomplishments.

Re: Training summaries week of August 27
I agree about the weekly training thread. I don't really think I belong here based on my 50 mpw and mid 17 5k times, but I appreciate learning about training from you guys that have been doing it for a long time and with a lot of success. I'll try to direct some of my more basic training questions to the mainstream racing, basic training or the over 40 crowd sections.

Re: Training summaries week of August 27
Light week for me as I recover from Hood To Coast. That downhill leg took more out of my quads than I thought. Did four miles on Tues. and felt pretty sore still and decided to bag the half marathon leg of the Half Ironman relay team I had an opportunity to do this past Sat. Switched to swimming and now my legs feel back to normal. A better week already.

As for adding my comments on the revival of this thread, I enjoy reading everyone's post though I'd like to encourage more women to post! Don't be intimidated by these guys, ladies! I'd really to know what kind of training you're all up to, be it posting in terms of mileage or time on your feet a la denton.

Nonsense: you're serious about racing, have good times, and are looking to improve as a master. Keep posting and giving progress...
