Chicago

I'm surpised nobody had posted anything regarding what could possibly the greatest marathon finishes for both men's and women's races in the history of marathoning.

Adere put on a sprint in that last quarter mile when it appeared Pirtea had it won. You can see for yourselves.

I have no pity for what happened for Pirtea, a bit too much arrogance i.e. slapping the fans high five and pumping her arms in victory. Very stupid on her part and very brilliant on Adere's part to tuck in behind and around those two male runners on the other side of the road from where Pirtea was.

Re: Chicago
Thanks for that. What a climax. They'll need to get a longer finishing tape next year!

Re: Chicago
Definitely shows the inexperience of Pirtea. What an amazing finish. Adere never gave up. A true champion on a very tough day indeed.

And the mens finish. To have that speed at the end in 80+ degree heat. One for the ages.

Re: Chicago
The men's finish was INCREDIBLE! Two guys hammering each other until the last split second, wow! And you gotta feel for Njenga as well, how often has he been the bridesmaid and never the bride?

It's sad Pirtea blew it. Coming from track, she should know you run a victory lap only after the race is over...

Re: Chicago
Search for "Surprise Finish" to see the women's finish. Absolutely amazing and heart breaking at the same time.

Re: Chicago
i think the race official waving the two male runners over to the left faked out Pirtea. she probably saw that and figured that those footsteps she heard were male runners. also, it seems stupid that the finishing tape was too short for both the male and women's finish. how can Chicago have two finish line fiascos in two years (didn't Cheriouyot fall and hit his head last year???)?

The finishing tape that was across the finish line was only wide enough for one person to break the tape. Looking at the video, the runner on the right bumped the guy holding the tape at the line.

I bet the guy holding the tape was some VP of marketing for LaSalle Bank and knew very little about running.
