Jay, do you do the Bridges for friendship 10K in Oct? I did that last year for the first time and I loved the scenery along the course, especially going by Wentworth Marina is beautiful. I kayak thru there and took sailing lessons back many years. It was a very nice course.

I konw of the "Bridges" race, but I haven't done it before. Do you know when in Oct it is this year? I already have races planned on the 3rd and 17th, and I'm race directing a race (the Great Bay 5K) on the 23rd, so my available dates are limited. The Jingle Bell 10K (late Nov.?) also goes from Portsmouth, through New Castle and by the Wentworth, and then back into Portsmouth.

I couldn't find it on this site but I think it is the 16th. I'm already (hopefully) doing a 1/2 that weekend so unless things don't go well in training and I have to drop the 1/2, I won't be able to do the race again this year. I did the Great Bay 5k last year. That was a nice race too. I'll have to see about the Jingle Bell in Nov.

Yes there are well marked trails through Odiorne.. run along the sidewalk until to 1A (the entrance where people launch kayaks) within there you can get to the beach trail.
Used to be quite a few trails along the seacoast, but with all the development...
I have seen some trail entrances in Hampton, I will be checking out in the near future..
where do you usually run?

Are you talking about the kayak entrance that is right near a little bridge? I use the one that is next to a bridge and then after launching you go around a sandbar and then you go thru Wentworth marina to get out to the open water. I'm in Derry so most of my runs are there but I am planning to save Sundays for a trail run in different areas. I go up to Massabesic occasionally and Kingston state park has a XC route I'm going to check out.

That would be the entrance. The tide near the Wentworth Bridge can be tricky.. Well going against it is a great workout:-)

Yes, the tide there is definitely a problem. Especially the 2 times I got stuck in the clam flats coming back in. It was NOT FUN! Those things hurt your feet! We had to actually walk thru them pulling the kayaks behind us. The 2nd time was not as bad. I went over where the boats are moored and that was easier.

So, from that entrance, where do I find the trail?

Hi, I am in the seacoast NH area. I am training for the Chicago marathon and i need an 18 mile run for the weekend. If I am running that far, I would love a nice route. Does anybody have any ideas?

Re: NH runners?
I saw all the talk of trail runs on the seacoast above. I'll recommend the Rockingham Trail - a former rail line from Newfields to Manchester. The tracks are gone, and the State maintains it for non-motorized uses. It can be picked up at Route 108 (near Rockingham Golf Course) where there is parking, Rt. 87 (Newfields), Rt. 27 (Epping), Route 125 (Epping). The segment from Newfields to Epping is about 7 miles. From there is continues 20 or so miles to Manchester.
If you want flat, soft, quiet and scenic its a great place to go.

Rt 1a by the ocean is good, especially early morning before there are two many cars. I used it for long runs last winter. I do know it is 10 miles from the woodplank bridge by Odiorne (sp?) to Cinnamon Rainbows surf shop.

I'll be out there tomorrow AM...

Re: NH runners?
Thanks for the routes. I actually decided to run around home, Durham to Newmarket along Packer's Falls Rd and onward down 152 west. It is a very scenic route, but a very hot and humid day. I will probably try the other two routes another time.

Re: NH runners?
Now that it is cooler out? What are the best routes around the seacoast? Any trail runs of 3-4 miles in the Portsmouth, Hampton areas?
