Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hello Omni,

I'm new here as well but I thought I'd welcome you anyway :-)

I'm practicing my Englih too.

I've never been to the Mont-Royal sunday thing, but I would love too. I'm available at the dates you mentioned.

Ciao!

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Alright... I haven't received any suggestions for new running routes, so I will suggest that the members of the Montreal Runners Forum (and all other Cool Runners) meet at the monument on Parc Ave. (between Pine Ave. and Mt-Royal Ave.) this Sunday, December 19th, at 11:00 AM.

We can either do the Cross run again (with or without assorted additional alternatives), or we can do the Standard Life 10 K course, and literally run around the mountain:
=> Parc to Pine
=> Up Pine to Cedar
=> Cedar onto Côtes-des-Neiges
=> Côtes-des-Neiges to Côte-Sainte-Catherine
=> Côte-Sainte-Catherine all the way back to Parc.

Any takers? Come on, you know you want to run with other folks if you're going to be outside... Aside from Grommit, who has really done all of their mileage this week? Alright then, let's get together and at least put in a 10 K.

And for those worried about speed, I'm still recovering from a fractured foot, so I'm not moving all that fast.

Let me know.

Take care.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Went out for a not-so-easy 5 K and change early this morning. ****, that was chilly. And jumping from bad sidewalks to slippery streets, hopping over snow banks from snow removal teams... I feel like I've just done a XC course...

Anyways, hope to hear from other folks who haven't gone into hibernation for the winter...

Take care.

I'll be there, too! My vote is to go to the cross again. My reasons are that the route is safer for those with sore feet, limbs, joints. Running around might be a bit more like a certain someone's recent 5k.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hello all,

Not sure what my schedule is on Sunday (In-laws leaving town), If I can get them out of the house in time, I will make out to the statue, otherwise, I will try for the next one.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Went missing for a while.... meeting thing in Toronto where the streets are all nice & clean and the temp is a balmy -3.

So my schedule for last week got all screwed up with family obligations/ bad weather/head colds/loss of focus/my motivation went AWOL/etc didn't get to do my planned 20 miler...Total of about 58kms for the week... big dissappointment

This week is also going a little pear-shaped as I had to do the TO meeting... 4/10 hotel in Markham last night saved only by the Treadmill & pool so I managed to get in my 8 miles last night with 5 x 600 @ 5k pace...

I've got another tempo run and a couple of easy workouts before Sunday.. so all things being equal I'm good for 11:00 at the monument.... My schedule calls for 17 miles so if I do the same route as our last meet (a little over 18) the training program gods will be appeased

Mountmars..... I was going to suggest that we circum-navigate Ile Bizard sometime... 17.1kms. It's areally nice route and the traffic is generally pretty light... if there are people in town who need a lift.. I'd be happy to oblige... just a thought..

How's everybody else's running coming along ? how's the injury VC ?

Cheers

Grommit

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Ohh this thread is busy ! Back from a three days getaway at the cottage...to ski. Uh I mean STUDY. It was awesome. 3 skiing days back to back. and some studying.
AND, I did manage to go on a run. 2.5 miles run on snowy road with NO CARS. Fresh air. Saw some deers. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. I'm in the best shape of my life. To go on a run after two big skiing days is so great. My leg feels a bit tired today though, I will give them a break TOMORROW. Today I want to go on a short 3 miles run. I want to run around the city. I miss the city. I can't decide if I prefer to run in the city or in the country. The country is more beautiful, calm, refreshing and WHITE...the city is more energizing, alive and there is more things to look at.

kneejerk: Heheh..well I HAVE to run in the morning since I have the usual 'university life' schedule which requieres to be at school at around 9h AM for classes...then team projects that MIGHT finish early around 6hPM...or MIGHT continue up into the night...and if it does finish early then hey that's a reason to celebrate at happy hours parties right? hehe so I alway sget home LATE. I could not turn down any fun gettogether to go on a 'run'. I'm too weak for that. And I'm a morning person. At night, I turn into one big slob. I would be VERY curious to know on which street to you go down to Mont-royal and then up ?

I wonder why we can't see the previous postw when we post. It is annoying. I don't remember who said what. Hello to you Ottawa marathon runner ! Montreal has definitely its share of HIGH LEVEL runners.
I like following a schedule too. I'm usually very anal about following training schedules even though I'm not training for anything. RIght now I'm following my 'body signals' since I'm recovering for a harmstring injury.

You all look like you are going to have a great run together !
I have an exam on December 19th. I will be looking out the window if you run on Cote Sainte-Catherine. (I'm at HEC).

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Ho Veronique, your trip to the country seemed so nice. I have not been out of the city since the summer. One thing I really like to do is run all the way up the Mont-Royal then walk down and take the path that leads right into Metcalfe street : downtown! I go have a coffee and browse books at Indigo on Ste-Catherine. I like the "contrasting" feeling of being in the Mont-Royal's nature and then in Montreal downtown civilization! This is something I really like to do when my daughter (11 year old) is away at some friends place and I have time for myself.

My run to the Mount-Royal: I take Casgrain all the way to Bellechasse. On Bellechasse I take St-Laurent to cross the viaduc. I turn right on Bernard to Waverly. Waverly all the way to the Mount-Royal (the monument). and back. Voilà! It usually takes me about an hour. I like to go trhough the Mile-End and the Plateau... does it sound boring?

You know, boring is okay with me. One of the thing I like about running is the "meditation" feeling it gives me. I just like to let my mind quiet down... the whole zen thing.

Too bad you're not coming with us on Sunday...

PS: about seeing the other previous posts: I usually write my own posts in notepad first and cut'n paste it when ready to post. This way, I can refer to the other messages while I write.. does it make sense?

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
I use Firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com/) to browse the Internet. One of the many benefits of using it is a plug-in that you can add to Firefox called Spellbound (http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/). All I have to do after I have finished typing is right-click where I wrote and choose "Check Spelling" from the list of options. A window pops up and I can correct any mistakes right in that window. The best part is that they have language packs you can download for many other languages because it isn't an English only spell-checker. Nice, huh?

I hope this helps. It sure makes things easier on me!

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
kneejerk: thanks I will definitely try to run on this route. Casgrain is a great road to run on, with NO traffic. I run there all the time, on Casgrain or de Gaspé..it depends on which way I'm heading. I make sure I always run toward the traffic!

cityboy: I'm clueless about computers. Is this a program like Explorer or netscape ? or is more like a browser you use like yahoo or google?

Has anyone ran today ? That WIND. I had this strong wind in my face the whoole time...and when I was running BACK you would think that it would be giving me this nice extra push in my back to go faster. Well no. It was in my face on my way back also. I hate hate hate wind. So it was a 3 miles run. I've mastered the 3 miles run now. Next week, I will be planning a 4 miles run . I see the end of this injury ****. The day that I am back into the double digit (in KMs mind you) will be a GREAT day.
Oh, just out of curiosity..do you count your mileage in KMs or in miles ? I do it in miles. Which is pretty stupid I guess since I'm canadian. Everybody seems to count MILeage, so I just follow the trend.

It's like Internet Explorer, based on Netscape, and is better than both.

VC, I call it "milage", but really mean Kilometres, and count everything in kilometres.

Ran 8.5 k's last night before the wind picked up. Was really quite warm actually.
