JB: hahahah! a machine! youpee, I love being called a machine. I am blushing with pride :-)

Chops: Thanks, it was a pleasure running with you today. I will try to remember at least 10% of your precious advice the day of my first race (Bizard).

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
.........Yes I'm still alive.... Doing just fine in fact. My Miami Tropical Marathon went pretty much as expected... if not exactly as planned. I'm sorry to be so late in posting, I have now been up since 4 am after 3 or 4 hours sleep last night.

I'll give you the full account in the morning or maybe when I get back to Mtl tomorrow ...... but the good news is that got my BQ with a chip time of 3:26:39.... 161 out of 1718 finishers

This is a really great race and I would recommend it without reserve.... particularly to thoose who live in the frozen wastelands

My bed awaits

Take care

Grommit: Good job for the BQ, it must be a thrill!

Runningag: My program is self made. I took 3 programs to make my own. My work schedule is to different to take any given program. I guess we'll talk about this on a next sunday meet. By the way, are you going to L'Île Bizard next sunday?

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Good morning everyone, another Monday ? but hey its February tomorrow ! And if the weather forecast is to be believed (see Grommit?s post about that !) should be mild all week, bonus.

Véro, I see you`ve been working hard, it will pay off in the end (I know you know). I haven?t met everyone, only 3 plus Titus out of a dozen people who post on this forum. I caught a glimpse of Dan (Runningag) because the group called out a greeting. I?m looking forward to meeting you and more. As for that driver, what an idiot !

Yep KJ, quite busy, and I imagine that you are as well. I work full time downtown, so commute. Mom being widowed now also means more of my time ? not complaining ? she is such a hip lady, and a great help to our entire family and even friends.

Courreur ? I understand your frustration about yesterday on the hill. If you want to get in that kind of a run, relatively in peace, you got to be there early ? my humble opinion. I?ve been up there some mornings, where I don?t see a soul for some decent stretches. As for the dogs, its all with the owners. JB?s Titus didn?t bark once, listened to JB, and was reined in when we met people. I have to tell you, two small dogs on leashes trying to get acquainted ? and the owners obviously finding this cute ? almost landed me in the lake a while back.

JB ? got to tell you something. Last night while finally cleaning the kitchen, I was thinking about the lady who inquired about Titus?s fancy footwear . Here I was, trotting along with Titus on my left heal, the leash was playing out and you were sounding further and further away, while you tried to be helpful to all her questions ? would have been a good ?Mastercard? commercial . Got to admit that was funny. By the way, I have more of those treats if Titus liked them.

Wow that was long, got to go, small meeting to start the day, take care all.

Oh frig, almost forgot, GROMMIT, way to go, excellent stuff.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Good afternoon Folks,
Df7: The mystery runner has materialized. Welcome in.
JoeBoxer: Ready for your under 1H00 10km ? Keep in mind that Ile-Bizard is a hilly 2-loops. DO NOT TAKE IT FOR GRANTED.
Kneejerk: Good workout on Sunday. Mountmars will not be able to attend the race next Sunday. Think about YOUR pace.
Mountmars: Hey you big log... you (sic)
Omni: I can feel somebody is getting prepared...
Coureur: I can feel somebody is prepared...
Runningag: Another one is getting prepared for the big one...
Grommit: ... Down by the river... Boston is your home. Welcome back, Champ !!
Veronique: In a distant past, I remember having done a GMAT. Did not know it is still a prerequisite.
Cityboy: Where are you ?

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hey there MLC, How does the Ile Bizard course compare with the standard life course?

I am also looking for advice/suggestions for a "race plan". Anyone have any advice on how I should prepare short-term (ie; for this coming week), or how I should tackle the course on race day?

Thanks,
Mitch

By the way, Way to go Grommit! Will we see you next sunday?

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Grommit: yahoo! I actually saw your results yesterday on the site! awesome. congratulations.

Another Île Bizard question: The 10k is at 10:05. What time would be a safe time to get there if I want to have time to register?

Thanks,

KJ

Nothing like Standard Life.

Rough topo of the course:

1) 0 to 1km: Start, straight on the main road with slight incline (4%) of 250m + decline (4%) of 250m, until sharp left turn on dirt road

2) 1 to 3.5km: On dirt road, OPEN TO WINDS, with a couple of rolling hills (2%), until sharp turn away point and come back.

3) 3.5 to 4.5km: Back on the main road and same as 1) but the other way around.

4) 4.5 to 5km: Sharp right turn to plunging road (7%) for 50m, make a loop around and come back to same 7% (be careful, legs breaker)

5) 5 to 6km: Same as 1) but you're back on the main road IN THE INCLINE (pace yourself !)

6) 6 to 8.5km: Same as 2)

7) 8.5 to 10km: Same as 3) until ARRIVAL

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Kneejerk: I try to arrive 60min before, like that I have enough time to register, do a small warm up and relax/focus.

JB: I would tend to start towards the end of the pack. If you to close to the front you'll have a lot of people passing you or you'll have a tendency to go faster then your own pace. Pace, the key element for a good race, STAY ON YOUR OWN PACE. Don't push to hard at hte beginning, get to 7-8 km and then see what's left in the tank, if so speed it up gradually.

Now I'm going outside to run a little easy run of 7k in the sun. That's what I need after the dentist!

good evening all!

Short-term training ? I would say HILLS. You know the distance won't be a problem. You wanna make sure to secure a 6:00mn per km on average. Hills are speed sessions in disguise, as someone said.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Back to reality (Montreal)...an awesome skiing day. Sunny, beautiful snow conditions. I like that my legs are not tired at all from yesterday's long run. Tomorrow is the usual early 4 miles run...

I am so happy to be back to my 'pre injury' shape. The last two months I've been working on getting back to where I was....and now I can finally focus on moving on FORWARD (8 miles + distance...Half-marathon is the goal). This is very exciting to me. Oh...I feel like next month I am finally going to break the 10 miles barrier. ! the 15K will be very exciting too ! The 20K...that I can only dream about right now !

Sorry, I am on a rush so that is all for my very self-absorbed post...Need to go to school. On a monday evening...after such a nice day outside. How rude.

Have a nice evening,

Véronique

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hello all.

Confession: I did not run yesterday and I wont run today, and I've been eating bagels like there's no tomorow.

Dan-the-lurker...oops! Dan-the-chatter...arrggh! I meant Runningag! : Helllooo! Nice to see you here now that your connection is fixed. Hope to run again with you soon. Have fun with your marathon training!

Omni: Thanks for the info. I will try to get there around 8h45.

I dont know what a BQ is and I'm too lazy too look on the Internet right now. I'm sure it's really obvious. BQ = Best Q...??

Chops: Wow! Thanks for your "rough" topo of the race. (I can only imagine what your "detailed" topo is! hahaha)

Grommit! Sorry about your post, yesterday! I hope you can make a new one today.

Véro: Sounds like you're BACK from your injury. And you GMAT is behind you. Nothing's going to stop you now.

JB: Still running from work? I need some inspiration...

Df: Yes, I'm usually quite busy as well but this winter is actually not that bad because I took a session off from university. I've been studying part time for the last 3 years and a half at Uqam... Just finally finished a certificate!!! I have another one to do before I can officially work in my field... this is such a long process. Anyway, right now I concentrate on my daughter's homework. I find that they learn very advanced stuff in 5th grade!!! Les prépositions, conjonctions, adverbes... not easy!!!

PS: I left an email and vocal message to the Ile Bizard organisation people in order to get the name and address of a restaurant we could meet after the race. I will tell you as soon as I know. (-IF you want to get together!!!)

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hey KJ!

I am working crazy hours now at work so running home at 11:00PM or midnight to be back at 9:00AM is not really an option. But I do have a larger lunch so my dinner break is spent running. Yesterday (Monday) evening I went out with my co-worker again for a 4.5k loop around work, dropped her off, then went out and did the same loop again. Not a bad start to the week for me, 11.5 on Sunday, then another 9 on Monday, today is off, then Wednesday I will go out again. Thur. off, and Hockey on Friday, then out to the "ILE" on Sunday!!!

Whenever I lose my motivation, I check under the bed, or in the sofa cushions, sometimes it's with my keys! Just kidding, I just look at the scale, I don't even have to get on, I just see it, and out I go. This might not work for you, but it does for me. Besides, sometimes the machine just needs a rest! Call it "tapering" for the ile bizard race!

Cheers, have a good day at work.
Mitch

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hey KJ -

Just read your message (work coming out of my ears this morning) - I think what you manage is pretty darn great, the 10 year old, studying, working, and the mileage you log every week back and forth to work, what problem with motivation ?

You struck me (in the 5 minutes we had on Sunday) as positve, upbeat, "on top of your game", maybe like JB says you just need a small break, and by the by, that Grade 5 stuff you mention - thanks alot. Bring on the bagels !

Hang tight, have a good one,

Df

PS, JB, love that bit about under the sofa..etc. I can always count on you for a chuckle !
