Re: Montreal Runners Forum
hey guys, way behind in catching up with the mtl. forum.

Grommit - congrats on the bq. I can only dream! so, what was your final time?

Veronique congrats on the gmat. When i went to do mine i procrastinated so much in registering that i missed the dead line! I had to fly to nyc and do it there instead! What schools are you applying to? I went through it all a few years ago, so i'de be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Anyone doing the 21kmtl? Sounds like a boring course, but i'm in town that weekend so i'm in!

Grommit...

YOU GOT TO RIDE IN THE BACK OF A PICK-UP TRUCK!!!!! HOW COOL WAS THAT!?!?!?!

Just kidding! Great report! fabulous read. Sorry you didn't get your PR, but if it makes you feel any better, you were the 3rd fastest Canadian, and fastest Quebecer in the field!!

Wanna try out your new mizuno's at the Ile bizard run on Sunday? That way you could tell us more about the Miami run in person.

Going out later today (at my dinner break) for a little hill training. Hoping for about 7-9km's.

DF, Have not yet looked into the kids shows yet, when I see the person in charge of that dept. I will be sure to let you know. I have not forgotten.

Cheers, Have a good day all.
Mitch

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hi,

kzod: I'll be there for the 21kmtl. Do you know that there is already 600 registrations so far! I think they'll be having a record year, last year we were 1000 participants.

Enough reading and writting I have to get out there and do my 12k run. If the weather stays this way we'll be running on dry asphalt at l'Île Bizard!!!

Have a nice day!

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
I'll be at the 21kmtl. I was, happily, one of the first to sign up.

I've been doing a lot o indoor training on the treadmill for this and today had a nasty realization when I ran 10km outdoors.

Treadmills don't work the muscles the same way. Sounds obvious now but I was huffing and puffing out there (didn't help that it was smoggy) and wondering why I was having so much trouble when I realized that my muscles were used to having the road do the moving. My legs had gotten lazy and weren't prepared to have to generate the motion.

So now, here we are in February and I feel like I haven't really started training. Grrrrrrrrr.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Great race report Groomit - a good race with a vanity sprint at the end to sweeten things up - that's the complete picture.

About your race - you were fading in the end, which is not unusual, but you never mentioned eating (except your watered Gatorade). Maybe you would have done well to have a few gels? I usually have one very ten k during a marathon (and one at the end of the bike split of a triathlon) and it works).

To come close to a PB this early in the year is quite an accomplishment. You should be very proud. And a BQ is always sweet...

When's your next race? How much time between marathons do you usually give yourself?

Again, congratulations!

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
City.....It's good to hear you're off the injured list & you're right about the TM/outdoors difference.... but the TM is always better than zero... right?
I might be tempted to do the 21k mtl thing... but it's a ways off and my brain isn't computing the idea of any serious training at this point... needs a few more days, I guess.
KJ.... I'm impressed with your ramping up the milage, a nearly impossible feat with work/kids/studying. How's your pace ? not getting stitch on the hills anymore I imagine BTW bagels are considered essential in a runner's diet... just watch out for the smoked salmon and cream cheese !!
I doubt if I'll make it out to Ile B. this Sunday.... I'm planning on taking the gang skiing on Saturday and I'll probably reduce my legs back down to a purée trying to keep up with my kamikazee 11 y.o. I'm looking forward to using my skis which have been collecting dust as I trained and worried about injuries.
There is one restaurant on the island, it's a family type diner. Turn left at the lights when you get on the island it's on the right just before the Ultramar (with the carwash). Don't know if it's any good though...
Vero: is your hamstring thing all better now ? It sounds like you're getting into this running thing pretty seriously which is not that easy at this time of year....I don't know how many times I've been soaked frrom head to toe by passing cars.... I always give them my cheery wave..... Hope your exam results turn out well...
I' m looking forward to the better weather, spring and that smell that comes as things start to come back to life..... OMG it's only february, two months to go.
Coureur: no Idea at all what I'll do next... I'm still tempted by the VCM down in Burlington. I signed up for this last year but got injured about 6 weeks before the race... lost my $75 fee and 2 months of running !! I also starting to get curious about longer distances... sick I know I think I might try and concentrate on my 10K time..... Chops is going to be my trainer !! Don't know if I want to do the Mass. race this year or 06 ... or both, what do you think folks ?

Later,

Grommit

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Grommit, if you're looking for the long distance thing, get in touch with the good "Fat ***" folks and Peter Collins (Maybe Boreal can help you, because Peter trains with them and he sets up ultramarathons, terrific guy too...)

As for Bordeleau (I forget the moniker of the person asking) he can be seen frequently on Tuesdays and Thursdays betwen 5 and 7 PM on the Claude Robillard track. Interestingly, he' s now coaching runners who are doing the 800 meter ( a brutal distance!). Could be coaching marathon as well elsewhere. I think he is associated with CADL (Club Athlétique Dynamique Laval) so it's a good bet to start by contacting that club.

I'll be training you ??!!!... Yeah... right... I'll be trailing you instead !

CougarCanyon: Alain Bordeleau... I met him during a supper at a friend's house (winter 96). I Remember to have been surprized by his height... Very friendly guy... He was in charge of the next Mtl Marathon. They had an office in Old-Mtl and was looking for help. I paid him a visit a couple of weeks later. The organization was having problem with the city of Mtl & was looking for an alternative (Outremont, Lachine....). Everything collapsed a couple of months later and he took a beating in the media. I've never seen the guy since and Mtl had to wait until 2003 to get back on the marathon scene... It was my anecdote of the day.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum
Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I run the mountain a couple of times a week. I used to run every day on it when I lived on Ridgewood but now I live in the western part of NDG. I also run on the Lachine Canal and the St Laurence as well as on roads like Blvd St Rose in Laval it is East West and straight...great for a tan .

I'd like to meet someone in this part of Montreal to run with and perhaps go to races with.

P.S. I run with my dog and most of the time I am pushing one of my kids.

See you soon
