I'm at the hill called Signal Butte which is about a mile and a half
south of Usery Mountin Park; that's my playground.
I run up North-South Trail, then Pass Mountain Trail from Mckellips road
to the Wind Cave Trailhead; pause for a drink of water and return.

Yesterday on the return three mountain bikes left before me.
I figured they'd be faster - no problem.

Wrong.

They weren't a problem but mountain bikes are S-L-O-W going downhill
on trails.
The rocks, diversion logs across the trail, drop offs, climbing
out of arroys, etc. - which you and I just "sail" over and up present
"hafta-use-my-brakes" obstacles to the bikers.

Heads up !

If you see a biker about to lead you downhill ask her / him to wait for
you to go first.

it doesn't look too tough, the last nine miles is a
gradual downhill which should help your time.
This may be incorret becuse they haven't posted a detailed finish area map, but as you're heading west on University right about at the Mile 25 circle there's a railroad crossing. As you have learned by now, beginners tend to hesitate here and some slip and fall.
Don't be close behind another as you cross railroad tracks.

My current concern is logistical:
I heard the traffic at the start last year was crazy,
so I have a hotel room 1 mi from start.
But there aren't any shuttles from finish to back to the start !!!
Will it be tough to get a taxi from the finish area ?
Ideas ?
