St. Louis Marathon

Hi everyone,
Just wondered if there are anyone running this race. I am signed up for it. This will be my second marathon. I ran my first at Chicago this year.

I'm going to run it! I haven't gotten anything set up yet - hotel or plane reservation. It need to to do that. It is at the end of our spring break, i.e.lots of people will be traveling. I teach in metro Atlanta (Georgia).

Have you found an "inexpensive" hotel?

Re: St. Louis Marathon
hey guys! I'm planning to run St. Louis too! I haven't signed up yet, but I don't think they fill up do they? I ran Chicago two years ago and hope to do it again this year. I've never done long runs during the winter...I'm in central Illinois and that wind sure does whip across the prairie!
How is your training going?

Re: St. Louis Marathon
yes, it does tend to be a bit warmer in the south. I'm actually in central Illinois and there's a noticable 10-degree difference between here and Chicago. However, I've really been fighting with the wind lately. Once they cut down all the cornfields, the wind just whips across the fields and it's brutal!

I'm doing some treadmill running, trying to get outside as often as I can (got out today and did 12 miles!) I watch those 7-day forecasts really closely to determine which days are best for my long runs.

I'm using the cool running training program--but modifying it a bit to fit my crazy life. You?

Re: St. Louis Marathon
I want to run a 3:45 or better but it really depends on how many long runs I get in and how far I go with them. I would like to get at least a 24 mile one in for the last one about 2-3 weeks before the race. I am like you with doing the short stuff on the DREADmill and then getting in a long one outside. What time are you shooting for? Also where is the DesPlaines River trail?

Hi everyone.

I'm going to be in St. Louis this week. Are there any good running trails I can access using the Metra?

I see people running near the Arch. How many miles can I get there?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Where are you staying? If you're in the city Forest Park is probably the best place to run. http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/parks/forestpark/[/URL" target="_blank">

I'm not sure how long the area near the arch is, but I know it's not a big area. Bill Clinton ran there while campaigning in St. Louis in '92. If I would have seen your post sooner I would have stopped there before work and measured it with my garmin for you.

Re: St. Louis Marathon
Hey watergirl,

Thank you for the response.

I know Forest Park is best. I've driven through there and have seen lots of people running there. My problem is transportation.

I will be staying at the Doubletree Hotel at the Airport. I don't get a rental car when I'm in a city with decent mass transit any more. So I'll be using the Metra for liesure travel and have vendors pick me up for meetings.

I believe the Metra goes to the Museums but does it go near Forest Park also? I'd like to get an 8 mile run in.

Thank you for the offer to measure the trail at the Arch. I do not want to impose such a requirement upon you. If it comes down to it, I'll run at the Arch.......I'll just make a lot of loops if I need to.

Thank you for the link also. I can't wait to get to St. Louis and do a little relaxing. Too bad I missed Mardi Gras huh?
