DC runners?

Hi - I was wondering if anyone out there was from the DC area. If so, do you have any suggestions on 10 milers or half marathons in the area. The two I know of are the Cherry Blossom that fills up in 10 seconds and the Army 10 miler who's field is pretty quick. Thoughts? I'm with out a car - but Annapolis or Baltimore options aren't way out there. Yes, I've checked out different web listings- just looking for suggestions.
What about running clubs? I find them a bit intimidating cause I've never been in one. I live in SIlver Spring, MD. I work in downtown DC on capital hill. I run 3 - 6 miles at maybe a 9 minute pace but want to increase the distance. I don't have a car - catch. Any ideas?

Re: DC runners?
I am not that familiar with races, so I can't give a personal reccomendation but the DC Road RUnner's Club does a lot in the area. I think they have two races coming up just this weekend in fact. And their races are cheap. I am signed up to do the Cherry Blossom, but I think the George Washington Parkway 10 mile Classic is right after that -- and I am thinking of doing both. But I am unsure of accessibility for those w/o cars. There used to be an area race called the Georgetown Classic, but I don't think it's been run in a few years.

I was also intimidated by running clubs, but I went with a friend to the DC Road Runner's track workout a few months ago and have been going ever since. They meet in Ballston on Wednesdays for speed work (I am not that speedy though...about 9:30-10:00mm...which translates to about 8:30--9:00mm on the track for speed stuff). It's metro accessible if you are living downtown (orange line), but I guess not all that condusive to MD. I hear good things about the Mongomery County runners club, but I am not familiar with them or other groups that actually meet in DC.

Re: DC runners?
The Cherry Blossom and the Army 10-Miler are the 2 big DC races aside from the MCM. I have yet to hear of a half marathon in the city. I travelled up to Baltimore last October for the half marathon- it is a challenging course but overall a well organized and enjoyable race.

I just moved back to the DC area recently, the Annapolis 10 miler is another good one, as well as the Hartwood Ten Miler(near Fredericksburg), in late August. They have the Blue and Gray Half in the middle of September.

Re: DC runners?
Forgot to mention another DC running club- the GW running club. They meet formally on Saturdays. It's a very laid back group and is not all students- there is actually a fairly wide age range, as well as speed range (anywhere from about an 8 minute to 13+ minute miles).

In the summer they offer a marathon training program for the MCM.

Re: DC runners?
The Montgomery County Road Runners Club is considering changing their annual Marathon in the Parks race to a half marathon, and they have the Riley's Rumble half marathon in August.

In my personal experience, the Army 10 miler is worth the crunch to register before it fills up. I enjoy it every year.
