Favorite DC area loops?

Would anyone be willing to share some of their favorite DC-area running loops?

I am starting to increase mileage (double digits for me!) and am looking for some training loops where I don't have to backtrack.

Thanks

Where would you be starting from? I have a lot of different routes, but depending on where you are they may not be that useful.

Hey there Jen,

Well, I could start anywhere cuz I got a car, but I am living in NWDC. But, like I said, for a long run change of scenery I am willing to commute to a run. Do you know of any good 10 miler loops nearby?

Be well!

The DC Road Runners have a bunch of routes on their site as well (www.dcroadrunners.org). Go to the Saturday Long Run section. All routes start from Iwo Jima.

I hadn't seen the GWU routes before--terrific, especially since I live in Foggy Bottom. However, they're way off on the distance for the Bridge Loop (Memorial and Key)--I do that loop at least once a week, and it's closer to 4.6. If it's really 5.5 then I'm way faster than I ever thought. (I know they say the distances are approximate, but a mile on a 5-mile course is huge.)

If you don't mind coming north into Montgomery County, I have enjoyed the paved trails in Wheaton Park for about five years. There are even some unpaved trials that link back to the paved ones if you like trail running. The Wheaton trails connect to Brookside Gardens, which are beautiful all year round, and are always cleared immediately after it snows.

Get the "Washington, DC Running Guide" by Don Carter and Bob McCullough from Amazon. I got a used version - which was just as good.

It has maps of loops or just straight out and backs in the District, VA, and MD. Tells you how to get there via Metro or car, the type of course (hilly, etc) and how scenic it is.
