Cincinnati/NKY runner

Any other runners out there from NKY or Cincinnati area?

Had compartment syndrome (release surgery) last spring, and still coming back slowly from it, I think because of all the hilly routes around my neighborhood.

Howerver, I can still do 6 miles on a good though!

I'm in the cincy area. You said you are running again? Training for something?

I'm training for the Pig and for Bayshore (May 28) Marathon.

Re: Cincinnati/NKY runner
yes, i've been running since 3 weeks after my surgery last year. (yes my doctor told me it would take 3 weeks to recover and i hit the door actually before my 3 weeks were up.-i just couldn't stand it!) i just can't seem to get back to my normal weekly mileage. i think it's all the hills that bother my legs the most. i ran yesterday at miami whitewater park in harrison and did the 7.8 mile loop and it felt great. my time was 1:11. so i'm not the fastest runner in the world, but i do okay. my pace is around 9:00 or a little under that.

i missed the heart mini last year and plan on doing that this year and would also like to do the pig half marathon they have added. i just don't think my legs would hold up the entire marathon. i have run one marathon, the flying pig in 2001.

i haven't really started a training program. i just do what feels good.

do you train with a group or on your own?

Re: Cincinnati/NKY runner
I think that the half at the Pig would be fun. I've run the Pig as a relay and done the 5 mile race (before it turned into a 10K). I ran it as the full marathon last year for the first time. I enjoy this race. I'm also doing the Cincy half in April. I was going to do the 15K at the Heart Mini, but a friend of mine is running his first 5K ever that day, so I will probably run with him instead.

I'm a bit slower than you, but am hoping to increase my speed this year. I normally train by myself, currently, but used to run with my ex-boyfriend mostly. I do run on the TM at work with a friend a couple of days a week, but the long runs and runs at home are by myself.

How far do you usually run? You said 7.8 this weekend, but do you usually run shorter? Have you ever run the Loveland Trail? It is flat. Shaded most of the time.

Where is the Cincy half in April? I don't see that one listed on Don Connolly's site.

I'm not a fan of the TM at all. I stick to running outside, even in cold weather if it's not too windy, but some days it is harder than others to get out the door.

My normal runs are between 4-6 miles. I have several routes around my neighborhood, but like I said, all are hilly. And I don't think the concrete helps my compartment syndrome. I haven't been on the Loveland Trail in a few years, but I do like that. It is a drive for me to get there though coming from NKY. I do go to Lunken Airport occassionally and run the 5.5 mile path. I still keep hearing rumors that eventually it will hook up with the Loveland Trail. That will be great!

Sometimes I park at Newport on the Levee and run across the purple bridge down by Sawyer Point, past the Reds and Bengals stadiums to the bridge back to Covington, than back to Newport. I add on depending on how far I want to go. That is an interesting route, gives me a change of scenery and is relatively flat as well.

I used to train with some gf's but they are all married with kids now, and none of them run anymore. I got my bf running, but we are on the fence right now plus he is not up to the mileage I want to do. He is more into weightlifting. So I am now running on my own.

Depending on how I feel, I am not always at a 9 minute pace, sometimes slower. If I want to increase my mileage, I definitely need to slow my pace so I don't injure myself again. After last year's injury, I am just thankful to be out there running any speed/any distance. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't run at all.

Re: Cincinnati/NKY runner
Yes, I hear ya. It is a little weird at first 'cause you don't know if you're talking to a man or a woman on this site.

I live in Crescent Springs. I am at work all day and usually run at night during the week though. Don't think Lunken or Loveland would be a good idea at night, but wouldn't mind on the weekends.

It would probably do me good to slow my pace down a little. I felt good right after my run on Saturday, but my lower leg muscles are a bit tight and sore today. I think a lot of it has to do with me sitting all day and lack of circulation. I hate that!

So how many miles are you up to on the weekends?

If you want you can email me at my yahoo. juninejones333@yahoo.com and we can schedule a run sometime.

Re: Cincinnati/NKY runner
Well I'm not from Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky, but I will be "getting giggy with it" on May 1st. I'm looking forward to it. The Flying Pig will be my first marathon. Good luck to anyone else that I may see there.
