Berkeley/Oakland runners?

I moving out to the Berkeley in May and wanted to get the inside scoop on running out there. I saw that amazing run posted on the other California thread -- the Palo Alto Trail Run -- and does that ever look nice!

For a neophyte to the area, where are some good running spots -- trails or otherwise? Are the Berkeley Hills a good bet? Thanks.

Welcome to the Bay Area ghostride.
Good running spots are Tilden and Redwood parks in the East Regional Park Regional District. For maps check out:

The biggest running club is the Lake Merrit Striders in Oakland. (lots of folks jog around little lake merrit in oakland).

On the third Sunday in May is the Bay-to-Breakers race in SF. You will think you died and went to runners heaven. 70,000+ runners. Check out www.baytobreakers.com[/URL" target="_blank"> and make sure you go to Footstock afterward. For more serious running on the 3rd week in May is the Tilden Tough Ten in Berkeley. Other good SF races are the Bridge to Bridge and Run to the Far Side.

Good trail race organizers are redwoodtrails.com pctrailruns.com and envirosports.com

I live in Berkeley and I run a lot. I've ran most of the trails in the area but after two years I still find new stuff. There's plenty of stuff to run. My email, in case it isn't posted on here, is jls85@berkeley.edu and I'd be happy to show you around.

Welcome to the Bay Area!
If you do run in Oakland, don't go to the wrong side of town. There are quite a lot of straying bullets flying everywhere. Not a good area to be in.
