The Don's a possibility for me, though my running has been hampered these days by too much going on. My youngest was hosting a sleepover last night so I was too bleary eyed to get my run in this morning, I'll be doing it after work.

At the track this morning I finally figured out after five years how to use my watch, and then I found out how it felt to run seven minute miles!

I'll be ecstatic if I can run that fast for the Sandbanks 5 km race next month!

Come on guys, let's do the Don. It'll be fun, and I can try and sell something to you all. The course does start on a massive downhill.

hee...

it's all relative Dawn. There are many that will never see 9:21.

If you really want to get deflated, do a tempo run through the valley at the same time the boys from the East Toronto Striders are out.

3x1600 last night, kinda blew it on the first interval and puttered along the other two. 7.8 miles total. I've have done 4 but I haven't been running much lately. This morning my legs were dead but I picked them up and carried them for 7.3 recover miles anyway.

Working on your 5k speed Jim?

Almost the exact same hill workout as Monday; 14 km when everything was added up. Since I was focusing on form and running fast but relaxed, I spent a lot of time walking downhill. Man, now that's a hill. Actually, it's such a big hill that it's really two hills with a right turn thrown in on a small flat connecting them. I ran four 30-second uphills, and then 8 minute-long efforts, with lots of rest in between.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2005 - Pt. II
The layoff duing my bathroom reno (which is in a holding pattern until a couple of fixtures arrive) meant I didn't do much, so I'm just trying to get things moving again.

Considering I ran a 10k in the spring at 6:43 pace, it's hard to believe mile intervals at that pace are as hard as they are. Lack of mileage sure can kill speed. Anyway, I want 50 miles this week so I've got another 7 1/2 to do later today (a bit too stormy out there this morning).

Jumping into mile reps at 10k pace at the drop of a hat isn't easy. Give it some time.

Five miles easy for me today, along with some drills and core work. It's the easiest day on my schedule. I also get to enjoy doing nothing tonight. Joy.

Got a race scheduled for today...after the rain I noticed a bunch of snails are out on the sidewalk...gonna put them away early....the surge breaks their spirit after a half mile or so.

Doing 10 miles today...I'll report back when done...probably sometime Monday.

Way to go. Join the club.

I banged up my hip for at least a few days. After that I stopped checking.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2005 - Pt. II
My Saturday morning long run - 34 km - felt like a muddy trail bike run instead. I knew the ravines would be wet but I had no idea how much flooding had gone on Friday during the storm.

Taylor Creek starting at Vic Park wasn't that bad but as I got closer to the Don...the creek had spilled over leaving lots of mud and sand and downed limbs. The underpass (under the DVP) was about two inches of wet mud and it didn't get much better. Downed trees across the path, especially at the police dog place, shoe sucking-off mud in many other places. You could tell the flood water had been two to three feet above the ground in some places. Almost the entire Don pathway from Taylor Creek to Riverdale was like this. I headed up at the Riverdale stairs, not wanting to chance that metal underpass further south. I was sure it would still be under water.

I realized while running that the DVP had been closed to traffic, and when I got home and turned on the radio heard how bad the flooding had been, with people trapped under the viaduct etc.

My shoes don't look so new anymore, and I'm really thankful no one was hurt (that I've heard of) in the flooding. I bet it's going to take a while to get the ravine path system cleaned up.
