Econo and Tetsuji,
"Commence hijacking of thread"
I'm chuckling as I read your posts, because my grad school experience is not so unlike what you're talking about! I did have a career after my undergraduate studies (I've been back in grad school for 3 years now), but I'm thinking that it will be more like 6 years to complete my doctorate. I just changed labs (I wasn't getting anything done with my old advisor) and I'm cautiously optimistic that my new advisor will work out better. To top things off, I'm attending Iowa State, my wife and I are originally from the west coast (Portland and Seattle, respectively), and she's really wanting to move closer to home. I'm in a bit of a fix!
"End hijacking of thread"
My running philosophy. Folks always talk about form and how many breaths/step and stride length and... I argue that all you gotta know is the pattern. Stick with it and the rest takes care of itself. Needed to remind myself of this is I trained for my first longer races - so it also became a mantra that got me up tough hills.
Thanks for resurrecting this, as a newcomer I hadn't seen it.
Now I finally understand "Spareribs," which always perplexed me.
I loved the "ProFromDover" story (MASH fan, too.)
I was a little shocked by the "hookers" and "cheap" women here, though! (WoolGatherer64 and Econo). Who knew?
Anyway, mine's simple and spur of the moment.
1. verb, intransitive. “moves with firm, heavy steps; trudges”
2. noun, rock and roll. “Tramps like us, baby we were …”
#1 is accurate; #2 is a bit of wishful thinking from a big Springsteen fan. (and not very original as I learned from reading about Tramp_j !)
I live in the Big Apple and my favorite English soccer team, Notts County, is nicknamed the Magpies, or 'Pies for short.
And you thought it had to do with big, sugary, fruit-filled pastries.
A couple of observations from rereading this thread:
- Earthrunner was normal !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/frown.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/frown.gif|border=0!
- I can't find tetsujin on the internet besides for some limited motion robots. Is this right?
- A lot of posters are no longer posting any more....

Don't forget the newbie in the crowd, rochrunner's Giant Sedona. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/cool.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/cool.gif|border=0!
Edited to say: Wally and MrsWally (Macy) will probably be going out for a leisurely 20 mile fall leaf-peeping ride this long Columbus Day weekend.
Also, I saw divechief's note on pg 3, but I still can't find anything.

oh boy, I'm in big trouble now. he never once mentioned GS so I thought I'd sneak out and say "hi" but got his message deleted too. Whoops, here he comes. Got to get back.

My handle was just my initials.
Then Econo said she thought it looked like Egret.
I liked that and I'm like that. Tallish and leggy white bird. Very pale. Not incredibly graceful on land. Slightly knock-kneed. Sort of shy.
There you go,
