I really do appreciate all the responses y'all have given me. Thanks so much for all the advice and encouragement!
Where do you buy pepper spray?
I get mine at a local running store. You can also order them on line.
If you want to order it from my store: Run On! located in Richardson, TX - Phone # 972-231-8260. They will ship it to you for an extra charge of $5.00.
not sure pepper spray is legal everywhere check around to see if it is ok in your state/province/city/whatever
goals for 2011:
break 19minutes for 5k
break 2:42 for olympic triathlon probably Anthracite olympic
break 3:16 for marathon ( a long shot but it's fun putting yourself out there)
I too run early and in the dark. Luckily, the neighborhood is fairly safe, but even so, as a woman.... If I run early, I found a route with sidewalks along some fairly busy streets close to home. I feel safer that cars are present frequently and there are plenty of streetlights as well. I don't carry mace, but I do carry a small air horn - it's pocket sized and specifically designed for personal protection.
Find someone to run with. Maybe your friends are not willing to run with you, but I am sure with a little digging you can find a running group composed of members as "crazy" uhh i mean as "dedicated" as you are Someone in an earlier post encouraged you to listen to your instincts. That is great advice. Not trying to scare you, but I do not want to turn on CNN and hear about another missing female (oops, i just assumed you are female)...please, find someone to run with...
Thanks. There is a running group locally that I need to check into. If I can't find someone to run with in the mornings, I'd love to have someone to run with on the weekends on some wooded paths I wouldn't dare run through by myself. As safe as the paths seem, I trust nobody. But I crave getting out there, so maybe I'll check out this group sooner rather than later.
I appreciate everyone's suggestions!
