Tammy, thanks for the bump up.

SloJim, I have a question... can I get a hotel/motel close by? I'm not the camping sort and unless someone wants to share a sleeping bag with me and promises to fight off the lions, tigers and bears - I'm best when I have actual accommodations like running water, heat and a mattress. It seems like everyone is going to camp. I'm probably asking about this too late in the game.

not sure you want to be asking that on this board Sherie - especially after the recent pic of you showing your goddess hotness.

I'll be staying at a hotel Sherie. Not sure which one yet but I realize I really need to get that booked soon. There isn't much that is real close by. Most hotels are going to be around 15-30 miles away. There's just not much down there. I know some of the other boomers going here will be staying a hotel also.

Opp's, I mean share a tent! See, I'm a dork when it comes to camping!

Thanks Tammy for the info, 30 miles away is fine with me, I'll start checking into hotel accommodations.

I've been fighting off hitting the Submit Reply button. Sherie, I'm not going there about the sleeping bag issue! If I were to fly in, and it's not too late, just hypothetically, where would I fly into and would one of you be flying in there too where we could ride together? I love to camp but have never flown somewhere and then camped. This would mean 2 marathons 2 weeks apart if I commit to Capital City but I'm really trying to squeeze more marathons into my schedule for some insane reason.

Karl - the closest airports are going to be Eureka (40 miles away and I think this is where LabDuckies are flying in to) or Arcata (50 miles away). Because these are such small airports, you'd likely be making a few connections from Oklahoma. It sure would be great to have you there and I think this is going to be quite a fun Boomer gathering, but it's not real convenient to get to because of the multiple connections you'd have to make. Certainly worth taking a look at though!

Maybe a certain SoCal Boomer Goddess would be able to pick me up at SFO.

Karl, you obviously wear the title of "maniac" very well if you're thinking of doing 2 marathons so close together. You might want to give this idea some thought. I have no idea where SFO is however and I'm pretty sure I'll whimp out and require hotel accommodations. The last time I went camping was with an ex boyfriend - and trust me, it was the worst experience ever for him. And he loved to camp! Tells you what a good camp mate I was!

Sherie - SFO is San Francisco Karl would like to perhaps fly into San Fran (SFO is the airport code) and ride up with someone taking that route up to the Redwoods.

The drive from Eureka to Weott isn't bad at all. It's a straight shot and it's a pretty drive. I'd say about 40-45 minutes.

Karl - it appears SFO is a 5 1/2 hour drive from the airport to Euerka. Wow! That would be a tough drive for sure.

If anyone knows of a closer airport to Euerka, that would be helpful. The drive from Orange County is around 12 hours.

Sacramento might be a good bet. I think it's about 4 hours' drive, give or take (and depending on if you stop at the casinos near Clear Lake )

As for accomodations, I was hoping to camp, but my wimpy fellow UPS drivers looked at me like I had 3 eyes when I suggested it. Instead, we are staying at the Miranda Gardens Resort[/URL" target="_blank">. It is actually one of the closest hotels to the race HQ, but is pretty small so I'm not too sure if they have space available. It looks, by the website, to be kind of fun and quaint. You might call them to see if they have any rooms left.
