Nasal Congestion after pool swims

Does anybody else get affected like this after a pool swim? I notice that it is especially bad when I swim at my gym (indoor pool, high chlorine levels). Outdoor pools and ocean swims don't seem as bad. Do those nose plugs help at all?

Re: Nasal Congestion after pool swims
Just a thought, but you could be experiencing "vasomotor rhinitis". That's a fancy way of saying that you have Hay Fever that is mechanically affected (caused by an irritant - in this case, pool chlorine). I'm not a physician, but this makes sense to me because the chlorine fumes aren't dispersed into the atmosphere when you're in the indoor pool. They are trapped and kept in much higher concentration.

Do a little research on this and you should find a course of action suited to your tastes. Good luck!

Couple snorts of "Flonace" after the swim and it clears the sinus's up. Get it from the Doc or pharmacy.

Re: Nasal Congestion after pool swims
Used to get a stopped up head or runny nose after every swim practice but not recreational swimming from age 3 to 18. Never really figured it out until I had a coach work on my breathing technique for freestyle and backstroke. It had to do with me unconciously inhaling a little bit of pool water up nose before on my left side during breathing. It all boiled down to form. "Draggin' Fingers" drills and focusing on breaking the habit killed it.

Re: Nasal Congestion after pool swims
Is there anyone out there that may have had a simialr problem : After swimming for about 5 mins in open water I start to gag and my throat tightens up and I have to force some saliva (Spit fluid) up before I can brethe normally again. This keeps happening and I can't resist hacking the saliva (spit fluid)via up every 5 mins until my 40 min swim is over.
Its not a chlorine hing it just a swimming thing

It is not fear or anxiety of water its just happens. I am doing a half Ironman this Sunday June 3rd and this is my biggest fear. Last week I tried one decongestion tablet and my throat was even dryer. I have never tried nose plugs account I somehow don't think this will work.

Maybe I will try it with nose plugs as a last resort.

Does anyone Know if there is a nasal product that would be good to take before the swim that may relax the throat ?
