Re: March 50 Plus Training and Racing
Today, I tried to put everything together and do my 3 mile run of the wk 3 shedule as hard as I could. It was at least as good as the last and only good 3 miles I've done. My husband, the guy in charge of time today, "forgot". I am on the verge of tears. I know it was a really good run, but I'm a little upset.

Maybe someone should call the police.

Re: March 50 Plus Training and Racing
Saturday

12 miles easy. Of everything we do, I like the long run the best. Mine wasn't all that long today, but it felt great just the same...

Euphoric, it seems a while back you posted you'd run a 7:30 mile in one of your runs. That speaks of a lot of natural talent to me, so you're definitely going to improve.

I guess I wouldn't get too caught up in your missed time, it's the workout that's important and it sounds like you had a good one...

Re: March 50 Plus Training and Racing
I?m going to try a 10k in the morning as a tuneup for a more serious 4-miler next weekend. You are all welcome to hurl insults at me if this is the start of another spree. I honestly don?t think it is unless what I?ve listed below qualifies as one.

Haven?t been posting training for a while but have been putting in what is good mileage for me. Last week was 56 and will be over 60 this week. Included have been four 14 milers since Mar 10 on rolling asphalt with the slowest at 8:25 pace and fastest at 7:54. Most of the rest have been on grass loop at 8:20-8:50 pace. The only thing resembling speed has been occasional strides and 3200 on track last Saturday in 12:51. Runs have been feeling very good for at least a week now. Will be adding CV?s back in during non-race weeks.

Race schedule through May:

Mar 25 ? 10k
Apr 01 ? 4 miles
Apr 29 ? 5k
May 06 ? HalfMar (or possibly 10k)
May 28 ? 10k (most important)

comments/criticism anyone?

Looks like we were typing at same time, Rich. Nice goin!

12 miles is long to me. Until the past couple weeks I have to go all the way back to October to find one longer than that.

euphoric,

Be like me: once the workout is done--good or bad--forget about it, and look forward to the next one. You will do as well or better in the future, so don't fret. When time passes, this incident will dwindle into utter insignificance. Look forward to greater things.

Euphoric,

These guys are too nice. Kill your husband and tell God he died......or get the old timex out......or just enjoy knowing you did a good job as the boys said. Not knowing your time in a good workout is like looking up during the golf swing 'cause you can't wait to see where it goes. Bummer.

p.s. When is your next race?

My today - Boston 15 miles with BM buddies.
I guess I should report on my fun run. It was.

Oh more? Ok, I parked at 6M and waited about 5m for the first group. Tim, Hans, and Katie. They were doing 9's. 30m after they started the "A" team left Hopkinton. After me we picked up Dan, Dan, and Dan (no sh*t). We have named them F'nDan, ElDanno, and RatDan.

Katie and I kind of picked it up to 8:45-8:50, the others held with
us. The "A" team still caught us at mile 15. They were doing 7:40?
With 3M to go I picked it up through all the Newton hills. We all
finished at mile 21. 15 for me. 21 for some. 14 for others.

Lots of gatorade etc on the route. And hundreds of runners.
Beautiful day. 35-40 and sunny.

Godd run for me AHR 145 for 12M. Then 170 for 3M.

Re: March 50 Plus Training and Racing
Day off, up at 4, flight to Disney, walking around all day. yada yada.

Euphoric, forget about it. Next time you want to go out and run 3 miles hard, enter a fiveK. You are doing great, and remember all this is supposed to be fun.

Nice run Rich.

Jim, you know I am in no position to "hurl insults", but I will say that if you have a sluggish run tomorrow, it may be because you had a mileage buildup and perhaps not enough rest the last three days. Only you know what you have done since Wednesday, but for me, the second half of a week in which I am going to race is the second most important criterion to having a killer performance. Spareribs

Re: March 50 Plus Training and Racing
Because of travel tomorrow, I did my long run today. Well, long for me. I'm still trying to up the mileage. 13.1 at just under 1:32. Felt tired early on, which I attribute to recent training, but relaxed and the pace gradually dropped, with no strain.

My next race will be a local 15K next Sunday, with a major race -- the Brooklyn half-marathon -- 2 weeks after that. My plan for the 15K is to go through the 10K at what I hope to be able to maintain for the half and then start to race. That's the plan at least.

Jim

Go run a good race.

In response to your request for comments and criticisms....

To quote from a book I once read:

"If you want my advice, Peter," he said at last, "you've made a mistake already. By asking me. By asking anyone. Never ask people. Not about your work. Don't you know what you want? How can you stand it, not to know?"

Re: March 50 Plus Training and Racing
Well, I am sure not working as hard as you folks. 6.3 easy miles along the Sassagoula River here at Disney. Totally flat here. Off to Epcot.

Joe, I'd like to race a half marathon at the pace you train at!

SR, where does that quote come from? It sounded familiar. Was it "Once a Runner"?

Good luck Jim. Spareribs

Re: March 50 Plus Training and Racing
Thanks, all. I think I felt I had worked last week to get past some of the psychological isues of my running. I guess I didn't have it as together as I thought I did. As we started yesterday, I tried to put myself back into the body that had the run that felt so good. I also think I run better alone. Yesterday, instead of getting frustrated that my husband stayed one step ahead, I pictured him as a magnet pulling me forward. I kept saying "quiet feet, strong legs, belly breathing" whenever I felt distracted. I should have been satisfied with that success. I forgot all of that at the end and focused on the time and wanted to have run 10 seconds faster than the last good one. I have only recently even started looking at my watch on the run. I have never set goals that would be the least bit challenging. This feeling is all new to me and I have to work on being satisfied with honest effort. I apologized and baked brownies.

We went out for a nice 6 mile run this morning. We decided on a 12 minute mile pace. After an uphill at the 1/4 mile mark, we were right on target. But, by the half we were running about a 10+ minute mile and finished the first 2 in 21:10. We finished 6 miles in 63 minutes and my heart rate was 84. The run felt easy.

The 5 mile run is April 22. I have a trail run the weekend before that, but 4 miles is the longest distance listed for that one. I don't have to commit for the trail run distance until the day of. The Army ten miler (October) registration opens April 2.

This was the end of week 3 of the HM schedule. I have rearranged days, but have always completed all of the weekly schedule. I take a yoga class on the two "off" days. I feel great and have no injuries. I'll take a physioball class this week to help with more core work. I'll keep looking for books. One of my friends owns a used book store and she'll look for anything and reserve it.

Thanks. Debbie
