Nice SOX reference there Tramps, ol' pal.

Ahem.

Err?jeez, I?m not sure how to do this.

Okay, I?ll just be direct.

I have a confession to make.

I don?t work in a water cooler factory in the Northeastern portion of the United States.

There, I said it.

But all my running times and distances are real; it?s just my job that?s imaginary.

And that?s the reason why I think runwun is for real. Heck, his treadmill time this morning (10 miles in 1:05:42) was only one minute faster than mine (10 miles in 1:07). Of course, I was doing my last interval training session before Boston (schedule called for 12 x 800 at 5k ? 10k pace, but I did 13). Also had a weight training circuit appetizer and 30 minutes on the stepper for dessert.

I did a little experiment as well. I weighed myself before my workout (full sweats and sneaks), and again after my shower (just underwear). Gross weight loss of 12 pounds. That?s pretty extreme. I?m drinking lots of watercooler water to replace the sweat. Oops, there I go again.

Back to runwun ? hey dude, I think you?re real, and I?m willing to sponsor you. Name the place and race, and I?ll pay your entrance fee. That way you can post a legit time to quiet the naysayers. Deal?

And another thing ? I have never raced in a turkey suit or a fairie outfit ? those pix were expertly photoshopped by PBJ Jr., the King of the Maplefest 2007. Sure he?s only 5, but he?s a computer whiz kid.

Final thought ? the auditors were real ? there?s no way I could make up such a nightmare!

Wow, there is so much going on in Boomerland it?s hard to keep up with everything. Lots of great running as usual. I hope I have time to read the race reports soon. Rochrunner, I hope your SIL?s surgery went well.

We were busy all weekend gutting our bathroom and hanging sheetrock, but I did get out on Saturday for a 5 mile run and again last night. Saturday?s pace was just under 12:00 miles and that?s a first for me since last November. I am so ready to say goodbye to winter and greet Spring with open arms, and shorts, tomorrow. I won?t even care if it rains because it will make the snow disappear so much faster! My one goal last night was take it slow, and managed to keep it 70% of MaxHR.

My one observation that stuck in my brain from reading the weekend reports was NightHawk?s weekend tally compared to my Monthly totals for Jan/Feb. Good job, Mike!

Saturday ? 18 miles (Jan=16.7 Miles)
Sunday ? 22 miles (Feb = 21.4 Miles)

I was going to round my numbers up, but that would be exaggerating

I ran the Newton Hills again today. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The ice and snow on the roads was once again demoralizing to me. But then I remembered that the carriage road that runs parallel to Commonwealth Ave on the Boston Marathon route is generally plowed and clean and the drivers on this wide one-way street are fairly forgiving to runners. So off I went!

The first half of my run was decidedly sproink-less. The wind was buffeting me back and forth. I knew it was tough going when as I was running DOWN Heartbreak Hill, the wind was blowing leaves directly UP the hill toward me. When I reached the fire station (where the marathon route turns onto Comm Ave) and turned around, I suddenly breathed a sigh of relief as the incessant wind howling past my ears suddenly ceased and it gave me a push from behind.

Who'd a thunk it that the run UP the Newton Hills would have been more pleasant than the run down them! I swear when I passed the Johnny Kelly statue and climbed Heartbreak Hill the wind felt like a hand on my shoulder, giving me a gentle push up...

10.32 miles in 1:32:14 (8:56 pace)

Kevin take care of yourself and a speedy recovery.
Tammy, I told some one I ran 15.49 miles and felt horrible after I realized the mistake. Being particular about numbers has worked well for me, though numbers are one of the three things in life that give me fits.

I wish in grade school there was someone teaching us to run.The PE teacher just told us to run around the school 4 times and so we used to all take off as fast as we could. We would make it about 1 lap around the school and then suck wind the other 3 laps.

no running today just 1 hour weights and 15 min on the eliptocal.

Holly, GA means General Aerobic and it's a Pfitzinger term that I never really have been able to figure out. My take on it is that it means faster than easy but not as fast as marathon pace (which is MP) and can vary depending on how you feel on any given day. So the short answer is GA is easier than MP. I am still working my way back into shape and if I had to guess, I'd say marathon pace for me is right now around 6:50ish and easy is 7:30ish so today's run was probably closer to current marathon pace during at least a few of the miles. I am trying to work my marathon pace back down to 6:20 but that is going to take time, miles and many more tempo runs. And yes, all of this is really true - at least of few of you have met me at various races.

Sheak, I am sending you healing vibes. I hope the pain improves soon and that surgery is not in the cards. For what it is worth, my dh has had good success with those epidural shots.

Kimble, you are doing so well! Congratulations on nearly finishing the program. I am quite sure that a 30 minute 5K is realistic for you.

PBJ, I agree with you - runwun's training times may very well be real. I have run 1:05 for 10 miles in training and I'm a girl. He is running on a TM most days and it's entirely realistic for him to run those paces on a TM and then have a harder time hitting the pace outside. I do agree, however, that there are better and more ethical ways to obtain free entry to a race. Wishing you good luck in Boston - I hope that the weather is good this year and you have a great race.

Meg

Kevin,

My DH had a herniated disk in the same location about 6 years ago, but he didn't go to the doctor right away. Eventually the only way he could alleviate the pain was to put his arm over his head and reach down to the opposite shoulder. His had progressed so far that his hand and arm were numb and tingly He saw an orthopedic surgeon first but ended up with a neurosurgeon. They performed an operation to remove the part of the disk that's protruding. It totally relieved the pain for him, but the numbness and tingling is still there since the nerve has been damaged. PT helped get some of it back, but nerves take a long time to heal/grow (do they grow or just wake back up?).

Let us know how the doctor visit turns out. I too hope you can avoid surgery.

Meg - I guess I had GA confused, then. What I call my GA is usually about 9:15 - pushing myself sproinkily but not really breathing hard yet. I doubt that I could keep up this pace for 26 miles. The marathon pace I am aiming at is more like 9:45-9:50 - my comfortable jogging pace, and something I can keep up for a long time.

Do I have it all wrong? Should I pace myself faster for the marathon?

Kevin, I feel for you, spinal involvement is excruciating. Healing thoughts going out to you.

PBJ, did the little guy really do those mockups? I am in awe!
And that was a generous offer, RW, put up or shut up

Training session with Keith today, upper body is a tad sore from Sunday but not unbearable. He makes me use weight that is way above what I would choose even if I was pushing myself. Guess that's why I haven't been seeing results. Will report back later.

An old man walks into a confessional.
The following conversation ensues:

Man: I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Yesterday, I picked up two college girls, hitchhiking.
We went to a motel, where I made love with each of them
three times.
Priest : Are you sorry for your sins?
Man : What sins?
Priest : What kind of a Catholic are you?
Man : I'm Jewish!
Priest: Why are you telling me all this?
Man : I'm telling everybody!!

So runwun is kinda "telling everybody" without actually picking up the girls.
