Thu. March 22 Boomer Runs & Workouts

10 miles on the treadmill, at 1% incline, in 1:20:15 (8:02 mile pace).

The Boston Satellite Marathon in Kosovo is three and a half weeks away, and I found out about it just last night.

But not to worry: I have a special taper planned, which I trust will make up for any training deficiencies.

Sgt. Camargo and I are going to Sofia, Bulgaria, April 12-15, for our first pass since October.

I call it the Sofia Taper?.

After three days and nights of dr*nk*ng and str*p cl*bs, I will stagger back to Kosovo late Sunday night, in time to get up Monday, April 16, and run my first marathon.

Good morning Dark Horse. Good to see you back on the treadmill following your poorly back. I see the BSM prep is going well and the 3 day pre race plan is well in place

As for me, 7.5 miles of running fun this morning.

1.5 mile warm up.
5 miles of musical speedplay:
5 & 10K pace to Evanescence & Motorhead
Recoveries: Eurythmics
HM pace: T Rex and Rolling Stones.
1 mile cool down.

Good day to all.

Good Morning, Boomers!

DH ...(gently shakes head and sighs)

Elaine ? great musical speedplay!

No run today. No x-training. Not a darn thing. Well, I think I might use my extra time this morning to clean my DD?s room. And, after their dental cleanings, I?m taking my kids for a bowling lunch again. Does bowling count as x-training?

Our local forecast for Sunday is for rain, rain, rain, completely at odds with Weather.com, which calls for partly cloudy skies. Hmmm. I'm betting the locals know better. What do you wear in the rain when the temps are in the 60?s? Seems too warm for any rainjacket ? do you just get soaked and enjoy the cooling effect?

Two more days with the boss gone. Yesterday I pulled all the oldest files from the cabinets and re-labeled the front of the drawers. This afternoon I'm cleaning out the office storage unit in the basement. Woohoo...

Happy Thursday!

Good plan, DH. We'll be waiting anxiously for the race report.

Holly - at those temps, you won't even notice the rain - except for getting squishy shoes and socks. But it may not rain much, after all, so stay calm.

This is the first time I've attempted three consecutive days of running since that fateful day last August. I wouldn't have planned it this way, but I've got to get my long run done on Saturday this week. So I needed a day off tomorrow.

dawndaughter1, fiance and FMIL are coming in for the weekend, and Sunday will be busy with a visit to the invitation lady and a bridal shower. Uh, I think WRFB might have a really long run planned for that day, followed by watching some sports on TV in the basement through closed eyelids. How does he do that?

Anyway- 8 slow miles today in 1:24:28.

Good morning, everyone.

Definitely looking to the DH Kosovo Boston Satellite race report.

Holly, you'll be fine in the rain. Use some body glide on your feet to hold down the blisters, if you can. I do that for all my long runs, not just if it's raining.

I did a no-no today -- two hard days in a row. Today was a medium long run, so it wasn't really too hard. But I have a late committment tonight and didn't want to wake up so early tomorrow, hence the swap of days -- today was supposed to be a rest day but I'll rest tomorrow instead.

11.1 miles in 1:32 (8:18/mi)

Have a great day.

PDR, you're doing great. You're all the way back. Now don't let the inevitable wedding plan hassles mess up your recovery.

WRFB, you are really getting fast. Yesterday's intervals were blazing. If I read it correctly you were planning on intervals at 5K pace and instead ran the intervals significantly faster than that? That's not easy to do if you're running the paces at the right levels. I think you need a race to put into McMillan to see where you should really be.

HOLLY COUNTDOWN 3 DAYS! Holly, if you get rain, as others have said, wet shoes and socks will be the biggest issue. Use the body glide and you might want to keep a spare pair of socks with you in a ziplock bag so if wet socks begin to be a bother, you can slip on a dry pair.

I ran 6.4 miles in an hour. We have 30 MPH winds this morning so the into-the-wind laps were 25 to 30 seconds slower than the with-the-wind laps.

I have never used body glide. I've never (knock on wood) had any part of me that got chafed during runs, so I never found it necessary to get any. Do you rub the stuff all over your feet? Would vaseline work? But they say, nothing new on race day. Still, I did all my training in the cold, not the rain, so I'd hate to get blisters because of my lack of rain-training knowledge.

no running today. and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's run. Diggin out the shorts and hoping the glare from my legs does not cause a traffic accident. Time to start surffing the net for anti-rain dances.

8.24 miles this morning, with 4 at tempo pace. Got it all done in 1:10:21 (8:33 pace) and ran home to find DH and DS and DK (dear kitty) all still asleep in the big bed. DS was so sleepy-happy to see me and wanted to give me big hugs until he felt how sticky and sweaty I was. We'll save the hugs until after my shower!

Actually, Holly, on long runs I will often use both. I apply the Bodyglide all over and then the Vaseline to my toes. Never had a blister yet. Probably psychological more than anything. However, better safe than sorry.

Won't know til later in day whether I'll run or not. Want to see how the back is doing first. Not too bad right now. Sort of tapering/cutting back this week anyway with 18-miler on Sunday.

Hello everyone!

DH - very naughty!

Holly - hope you manage to avoid the blisters!

Did W8D2 of the C25K programme today. The 28 mins continuous running is fine, but I am a little tired now - well at least it's only a little tired! Put my speed up today and for the first time I saw the magic 5K appear on the monitor while I was doing my cool-down walk. Now I've just got to see it while I'm running! Lol!

Have a fun day everyone! Enjoy your run/workout!

Kimble

P.S. Snow again this morning, but it's melted now!

Holly, I don't consider Bodyglide that big a thing to try this late, but I assume you have a couple miles planned Fri/Sat to shake out your legs. Try it then.

Four slow, untimed miles this morning. I woke up with a fire in my throat and not sure I would run. Coffee and seeing that the temp was in the 50s made me feel good enough to get out.

Spooky-warm this morning at almost 60F, considering that yesterday at the same time it was about 27F. It was also very gusty-windy, which made me think of Meg (She Who Hates the Wind). But still, in the 6AM pitch darkness, with my headlamp turned on, I made the official "opening of the golf course" run (not open for golfing -- just for running). I would not have been able to do it without the light, and I finished with mud splattered up my calves, but it was a satisfying run all the same -- 4.3 miles in just over 43 minutes.

It started out at a quicker pace, but then I had my yearly comeuppance. The golf course route is very hilly, and it's running those hills on most days that gets me in good shape for the flat long runs in the Fall every year. But then during Winter I run most on the flats, and every Spring I get discouraged when I first go back on the old course and bonk. That's what happened today as I found myself taking a couple of walking breaks to let my HR slow down. But at least this time I know it's all part of the same pattern.

Good luck everyone on your runs today!
