Good afternoon to all. I'll start off by apologizing to Fran: I saw your post too late last night to try and make arrangements to know what each other looked like. So if you made it there today, there were quite a few more people than I expected to see and I didn't see you.
No official results posted by the time I left, so I'll have to add positions later. All I know is I didn't make top 3 in AG.
Short report: 27:00 on a glorious day on a very nice rolling course through a state park south of Boston. Not even close to a PR, but very enjoyable none the less.
Fashion report: red long sleeve tech shirt under and white sleeveless over, gray shorts, no MUG (light and breezy !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|border=0!) and Brooks GT6. It was 31F when I left home and wasn't sure whether I would need long pants. Glad I didn't as it would have been too warm.
There appeared to be about 200 runners for both 5 and 10K and it was a nice easy start. Lots of kids and walkers. Course was about 1/2 mile overlap out and back with a 2 mile loop. the start of the loop went up a decent hill and I got to pass a few people. Splits were 8:30 at 1 mile, 17 something at 2 miles and no 3 mile or ending clock. I think there may have been a little problem with the timing at the end but since I'm not in the upper echelon, I'll settle for having a fun run. I know it wasn't a 2 minute error so it had no effect on my PR.
I got passed by about a 6 yo (and waved him on by) who ended up being the first place under 15 boy. I think he's from a fast family as his mom won the 10K. Nice family atmosphere. They had the basic after race bagels, oranges, and bananas. A nice addition was Whole Foods chicken soup, very tasty and a cool enough day to really appreciate it.
and for the real reason for the race: it was announced that they collected over 5000 cans of food and over $2000 that will go towards other pantry needs. All in all a worthwhile day. If I can do it next year, I think I'll do much better by knowing the course.
Thanks for reading and hope everyone else had or has a good race.

Such a lovely race report, and yet of course here's where I got stuck...
Little cold for "light and breezy" wasn't it?
My last race I was neck and neck with a six-year-old for more than a mile, but finally I pulled away from him (with great effort). Some of those kids are fast!
Sounds like you had a great time, and for a good cause. Great report!

Nope, it was up over 40 by the time we started and by the end I wished I hadn't used the long sleeve shirt. I also ignored all the good advise that you got and wore the new shorts for the first time. I figured that I wouldn't be running long enough to chafe and they sure were comfy.
Have a great time tomorrow. Hope your weather holds. We'll be looking forward to hearing all about it. Go rest, I'm sure you're a little hyper by now. I know I was last night and I was only going 5K.
holly, great minds think alike. Light and breezy is what we wish for all the Boomer Gods on a glorious day!
Oh! Yes, and good race, kam. Except the part about being beaten by a kid barely out of Huggies. Grrr!
Nice job, kameele. You ran a good time, had a good time, and it was for a good cause. Congratulations.

I'll add my RR on to Kamalee's
Perfect running weather
Kam,
Sorry we didn't hook up but a nice race. I haven't checked if the results are posted but I completed the 5k in 22:50 by my Garmin. Not a PR for me but a good time considering all the knee issues I have had lately.
mile 1 7:17 a little slower than I had hoped but OK
mile 2 7:33 read short steep hills, ice on the path
mile 3 7:17 about what I expected
mile .12 0:42 not as much of a finishing kick as I'm capable of
Attire consisted of NB black compression shorts, black long sleeve stay dri shirt, NB 766 and Garmin 350
AHR was 169 with Max of 190 but I don't believe the numbers as strap was around my waist for half the race.
Fran
Kameele, sounds like a fine race experience. Yes, some of those kids are fast. They have so much less weight to carry around!
Fran, once my HRM started reporting screwy numbers and setting off the alarm every few seconds. I took it off and ran with it in my hand for a while, but it kept "working". Finally I stuck it in my hydration belt away from my body. That silenced it, except for a one last reading a minute later which set off the alarm one more time. Cursed thing. I don't use the alarm anymore.
congrats kameele (& fran too), good race for a good cause. I'm always getting passed by those little twerps that haven't even made puberty yet, grrrr.
Congrats on having a nice race. Although not a PR, glad you had an enjoyable time. So how was your knee?
Linda
........very nice running//..........sounds like you had fun......
Always glad to hear about the positive contributions to others that running these races brings. May not have been a PR for you, but I sure would like to do 27 for a 5K. Glad you had a nice race. cj
Kammeele
Good race for a good cause equals a great day!
Very excellent running both of you. I love hearing about you passing people on the hills Kameele. And your fashion report is worthy of a true boomer god! !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!
Fran, nice finish time too. It is too bad you guys couldn't meet up. Maybe next time.
Congratulations!
