Feed the Need 5K RR

Good afternoon to all.  I'll start off by apologizing to Fran:  I saw your post too late last night to try and make arrangements to know what each other looked like.  So if you made it there today, there were quite a few more people than I expected to see and I didn't see you.

No official results posted by the time I left, so I'll have to add positions later. All I know is I didn't make top 3 in AG.

Short report: 27:00 on a glorious day on a very nice rolling course through a state park south of Boston. Not even close to a PR, but very enjoyable none the less.

Fashion report: red long sleeve tech shirt under and white sleeveless over, gray shorts, no MUG (light and breezy !|src=|border=0!) and Brooks GT6. It was 31F when I left home and wasn't sure whether I would need long pants. Glad I didn't as it would have been too warm.

There appeared to be about 200 runners for both 5 and 10K and it was a nice easy start. Lots of kids and walkers. Course was about 1/2 mile overlap out and back with a 2 mile loop. the start of the loop went up a decent hill and I got to pass a few people. Splits were 8:30 at 1 mile, 17 something at 2 miles and no 3 mile or ending clock. I think there may have been a little problem with the timing at the end but since I'm not in the upper echelon, I'll settle for having a fun run. I know it wasn't a 2 minute error so it had no effect on my PR.

I got passed by about a 6 yo (and waved him on by) who ended up being the first place under 15 boy. I think he's from a fast family as his mom won the 10K. Nice family atmosphere. They had the basic after race bagels, oranges, and bananas. A nice addition was Whole Foods chicken soup, very tasty and a cool enough day to really appreciate it.

and for the real reason for the race: it was announced that they collected over 5000 cans of food and over $2000 that will go towards other pantry needs. All in all a worthwhile day. If I can do it next year, I think I'll do much better by knowing the course.

Thanks for reading and hope everyone else had or has a good race.
