8.25 amazingly sproinky miles after yesterday's 13.5. Our weather has turned and it's absolutely gorgeous! The packed snow is pretty slick though, so I'm on the side of the road a lot, but oh well, it's all good!
DS2 joined my by mistake at mile 4. He thought I was parked at the campus rec ctr so was about to go home. He didn't want to head across town to drop his little brother off at soccer, so DH left him with me. Well, I was just done with mile 3.5 of an 8 miler, and he's in snowboarding boots and snowpants, etc. He wanted to run with me a bit though, so did for about a mile and I was worried he'd tire and want to walk but as we headed the last .2 mile to the rec ctr I said "Let's sprint a bit" and that's the last I saw of him. I checked my Garmin, and it said I was doing 7:20 mm (which is fast for me, especially after 4 miles with two big hills!) and he was leaving me like I was standing still. This kid is wearing snowboarding boots, remember.
sigh He has a natural gift but won't run. He used to do cross country, and is a speedster at soccer sprints. He's won two bikes at the "Jesse Owens Track Meet" community events where they give bikes as prizes for first place. But now he can't be bothered; today was a lark. I told him about the mile race I do in late June where you just run a mile on the high school track and your times are sorted according to age... he could win that thing! Oh well, we'll see. Just kills me though, cuz I really have to work at running to keep my stride, and pace, and breathing, etc, etc, to get what I want out of a run. He's got this natural "lope" that could take him for miles and he just doesn't care. Grrrr. Not sure what the point of telling everyone that, but I just had to say it.
Susan, you've heard it here the best. Especially Tetsujin30... there's really nothing to add to that and I think you've heard the message. Go girl, you're ready for the HM. Wish I could join you in my father's land (his family is from Smolland--don't know how to put the / in the o).
