I took today off as a planned day off. I went to the local Border's Bookstore and bought "Daniels' Running Formula" by Jack Daniels. I'm at the point in my running where I want to start running like an athlete. I'm suffering from adult onset athleticism and I need to cope. Anyway, I've been curious how long and hard I should run and hopefully this will provide my plan - with adjustments.

I'll be running the Country Music Marathon this month but my plan is to use May and June as tune up easy speed work and 5K indulgence, then begin another full 24 week training plan for St. Jude Memphis Marathon on December 1st.

I want to qualify for Boston in 2008. That means I need to run a 3:30 marathon. Yikes.

The entire past week I've been feeling uninspired - lurking a bit but not posting. It was good that last week was a planned low-mileage week, as our temps dipped back into the upper teens on several nights. I just couldn't get excited about getting all bundled up to face that, plus strong winds. (And all the pretty blooms and new buds are just wilted slime now...so sad.)

But a new week has dawned and I started the day with 3 easy miles on the treadmill. Tomorrow I'll get myself outside - I think it will be warmer.

It looks like there's been lots of good running in Boomerland over the past week or so.

flying finn has flown. wow, enjoy the forests and towns.

daveinaa: does sound like nutritional stuff re: your bonky feeling. after saturday speed i have to force myself to eat lots of carbs right after running, and then i'm ok on sunday long runs; when i don't, i'm bonky. i'm chugging chocolate milk within 5 minutes of finishing my cool down, and the eating continues fairly non-stop for 30 minutes.

pbj: don't try talking things down. i've seen you run... you'll be just fine on monday. i'm doing contrast baths every night for my ankle, and my 10 minute stretching routine 2-3 times a day. pouring the extra taper energy into the little rehab exercises. i'll be lining up at the back of corral 2, and i expect to see you at the front of corral 3

Just finished 9.6 with DD#!. It looks like she will be ready for the Country Music Half in Nashville.

Boy, it was a slow run. I find it hard to run slower than I already do but I guess it is possible.

We ran probably about 9.2 and walked a mile, took one potty stop and it took us 2:30.

She was happy as she thought I was figuring the distance short....how could she doubt google pedometer???

((((Marie))))

the dfaffodils I put off cutting were flat & very wilted (not quite slimey). I kept thinking about it, finally cut them without a bit of hope, & they perked up a lot, even with bent stems. bless their hearts. tried to take a picture of their little tough selves but was out of batteries. there's hope for us too. :-) enjoy your run tomorrow.

((((Larry)))) I hope it helped taking time to respite with repast. take care of yourself.

400 miles of chauffering to take my oldest daughter back to college this morning. Got home in time to put in a half day at work.

10 miles of easy running tonight. I was all creaky and stiff from the driving, but by mile 7 felt pretty good.

Finny, we expect pictures!!
Neat about the Mrs Roch getting into running and Mr Holly sticking with his plan. PBJ Jr on a sugar high, EEK!!

Ran/walked after work for 45 minutes most outside another 10 on the treadmill at a 5% and did some half-hearted abs and ball against the wall squats.

Hi ChasingYou. if you're new here, (clearly not to running) welcome -- I'm pretty new to both.

I'm getting excited for all the Boston Boomers!

I squeezed in 4.5 windy miles between rain showers after work tonight. I was close to bailing completely on the run so I feel good about getting that much in. My original plan was for 5 miles.

Running with spouses rocks. I envy you guys.

Eric, take care of your shins.

At a race outseide of Detroit, I met a 92 year young man who finished the race, his Dr told him to quit running cause of his heart. He, henrun, and others like them are wonderful insperations.

12.16 miles after work. It's a first. It may not be the best idea, however, I'll give it a week. Shortly into the begining of the run is "KongZilla Hill". It's what all evil hills aspire to be when they grow up. There just doesn't seem to be a dowhill side to it. The run as only 12+ miles, but the hill is 482 miles. Go figure.

Dg9 & pmcneb: thanks for the cheery notes. I'm feeling much better now. I just had such a huge case of spring fever that when winter returned, it took the wind out of my sails. Patty, I didn't bother covering any of our plants up. When the weather guys forecast 7 days out of freezing temps, I just gave up. (My poor wisteria...) You must be a serious gardener?
