Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

Hi, everyone!

Finished my interval repeats at goal pace, but used up all I had in the tank -- had a hard time holding my cool down pace. I guess that means I did it right. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

5x1000m: 4:09, 4:09, 4:05, 4:11, 4:12 (2 min rests), avg about 6:43/mi pace. This was within a 9.1 mile run, total 1:10 (7:42/mi).

ETA: weather report 26F and clear -- supposed to rain late today into tomorrow -- I picked a good day to rest this week, apparently.

Have a great day.

Morning Boomers

No run today, try to take 2 rest days per week as part of the recovery, so we settled for a bit of cross training, plus I was late at work last night and on my way back there in a min.

Lou, that was some interval training, you sound like you were buzzing and all within a 9.1 mile run, phew, a cracker, I'm sure Mary (hopeful) would agree !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

Hi Guys!

Up at 3:20 am for 10 miles easy in 1:42:38, 10:15 pace.

It's still so cold! 28F this morning gave me rosy cheeks and cold fingers.

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

5.44 miles yesterday in the Newton Hills, in 43:56 min (8:04 pace).  Then I headed off to run a bunch of errands in downtown Boston, and I happened to walk down Boylston St and saw the crews starting to construct the scaffolding for the spectator bleachers at the Boston Marathon finish line.  That got the adrenaline flowing!

This AM I got in 5.19 miles on the Minuteman Bikeway in 43:24 (8:21 pace).

Another fiver on deck for tomorrow and then just a few piddly miles here and there before race day.

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

WRFB - That was indeed a "cracker" run this morning!  Congratulations!!

Roy - enjoy your rest day and don't work too hard!

PDR - It is great that you are back to your running self again - your posts were missed during your injury period. Great 10 miler!!

Runwun - nice treadmill run.

It was another Brinkley run this morning.   Since we got out the door a little earlier today we ran 4 miles.    The wind has picked up again and is coming out of the East - which meant my last mile was directly INTO it.   A little slower today due to that blasted wind - 10:05 pace.      No animal sightings - but we did have to attack a few larger snow piles - ya just never know!        Snow heading our way again - ugh!

Happy Hump Day!

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

morning boomers :-)

sounds good to me, mr. beer, but as i've yet to do interval repeats, praise would mean more from others.

roy, forgive my brain lapse, but what is it you're recovering from? smart to take 2 days off. i hope it helps.

e-z pilates workout #1, & callan's abs, not sure what to call them. not quite crunches. 100 position 1, 200 position 2 with various legs in various places.

thanks for the plank exercise SS, I like it. so far just doing the easy version.

have a great day everyone.

so excited for the Boston bound.

eta
runwun, your treadmill goes faster than mine. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/confused.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/confused.gif|border=0!

pdr, 3:20? i remember you're early risers way back from the welcome the newbies thread, because your house sounded like mine, & everyone else (dh included) thinks I'm nuts. but you win. :-)

mary, I saw a happy picture of Brinkley yesterday.

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

Another check in.  No real good news.  Still pain down my left arm and it goes numb from the elbow down now and then.  Pain is much less than it was at first but still there.  I go to PT twice a week and stretch and do other exercises the other days.  I guess I could go walk but just not into that mentally right now.  I have another appointment with the surgeon on the 23rd to discuss my progress and what we will do next.  Surgery does appear to be a possibility but I need to no all the restrictions I will have after the surgery before I am ready to make that decision.

OK enough depressing news. In good news my daughter is entering the last 8 weeks of high school and is all ready to go to Penn State in the fall and I just took a week off to tour schools for my 11th grade son and we had a great trip down to Melbourne, FL and back to Virginia with stops on the way. He really like UNC Wilmingotn and University of South Carolina and is ready to move on to the application steps in the fall.

Good luck on training and races all.

Kevin

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

Good Morning Boomers!

Good runs already this morning.

{{{Sheak}}}

Started out with a 2-mile walk with DH. No shin splints for him today (yippee - he was so happy!) probably because he stretched first today, and we started out at a slower pace, adding brisk-i-ness after 10 minutes.

It began to rain as we were finishing and I headed back out for a decidedly un-sproinky 7 miles in 39 windy and rainy degrees. The sluggishness was perhaps because I’ve been trying to diet off my Easter candy, or perhaps because I have 520 miles on this pair of shoes now, or maybe just because I hate wind and rain and cold.

As I was chugging along down the middle of the street in the dark, a largish 30-something woman in a nurse’s smock came hurrying out of her house and across her lawn toward her car, parked on the street. I wondered if I should call out a greeting, but here I was, galumphing along like a Clydesdale, feet slapping the wet pavement loudly (I am not a graceful runner) and I thought, “Surely she can hear the racket I’m making.” But no, as she rounded the car and saw me she jumped a foot and shrieked, “OH MY GOD, you do that to me EVERY MORNING!” Actually I’ve only done this to her once before to my knowledge, several months ago. At any rate, I burst out laughing (I swear I couldn’t help it) and by the time I thought to try and choke out an apology it was too late, I was 20 feet further down the street and she was in her car. I guess I should never assume people are seeing me coming.

And she wasn’t even wearing headphones.

Happy Wednesday!

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

I would choose today to do Intervals.  Now I look wimpy in comparison to WRFB's smokin' Intervals ...    You gotta give me advance warning of your Interval days Lou, so I can schedule a rest day or something.   !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|border=0!

I decided today to mix things up a bit and do a decreasing length set of Intervals. I saw this in the Glover book and thought it might be a nice change from the normal repeats.

7 miles total in about an hour with the following length runs. 3 minutes jogging between each. I targeted 5K pace (7:22 or so):

1 mile in 7:29 min/mile pace 164 avg. HR (92% MHR)
3/4 mile in 5:24 (7:11 m/m) 168 avg. HR (94% MHR)
1/2 mile in 3:37 (7:13 m/m) 168 avg. HR (94% MHR)
1/4 mile in 1:47 (7:10 m/m) 166 avg. HR (93% MHR)

All in all, not too bad though a little quick. The temp. of 70 degrees with 93% humdity didn't seem to affect me negatively too much.

Bill

Not sure as I still will have a high school football player this year. But how lucky can a kid get. Freshman year and PSU has tOSU and Notre Dame on the home schedule.

Thanks.
