SS--I thought that running goddesses gathered no moss or is that just rolling stones (except for Brian Jones)

Nothing is going to stop the Boomers, it may be miserable, but I am toeing the line at 10 am -ish on Monday

I am more worried about my family who is coming to watch and all the volunteers and spectators. Crappy weather does not make for a jubliant race crowd.

OK gang, this is the big one. I'm throwing everything I have at this. I won't have anything left to control the weather on any other race. I'm calling in all the powers I have to make the weather conditions perfect for Monday..............

but I'm still packing all the running stuff I've got.

I'm practicing my mantra, the same one I've used on many training runs and a few races this winter: "I am tougher and stronger than any storm.... I am tougher and stronger than any storm...."

Once and a while the 5 day weather forecast has been wrong.

Temps in the 40s and rain is fine with me. A NE wind won't be. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think a NE wind will be in our faces in Newton. Tucking behind a big guy will be even more key. Its kind of ironic, they're finally starting the race earlier and its not going to be warm. Rosanna Rosanna Danna was right, its always somthin'.

Could the weather be any milder? Jeez...some good Canadian summer weather.

You can all tuck behind me...but I might be going to slow for you all with wind gusts to 45mph....

Just think the finish line will be all the more appreciated. PR's will be out the window so no pressure.

I once skated Athens-to-Atlanta (an 87 mile race) in downpours and thunderstorms, the remnants of a tropical storm that passed through Georgia. The rain on our faces on the downhills actually stung, and there were "rivers" that I skated through where the water came up over my boot and I left a "jet" of water spouting up behind me. About 1/3 of the skaters did not even start that day because of the poor conditions.

My husband drove to Atlanta to meet us at the finish, and he was convinced that we would never make it. He saw numerous cars that had slid off the roads and visibility was terrible.

But the race was being covered by Outdoor Life Network (now Versus), and they did a little story on my twin sister and me who were skating the race together. You know, the usual mid-packer, human interest, freakish-identical-twins-who-skate kind of story. So we knew we HAD to finish this race, because we didn't want to be a post-script at the end of the show saying, "Sadly, the Travers Twins failed to complete this epic race".

We finished, but it was one of the most painful (and dangerous) experiences ever. After that day, I promised myself that I'd never race in such inclement weather again.

Looks like I'll get a chance to break my promise on Monday!

So I've been trying to completely ignore the weather forecasting/fretting. I had four people this afternoon ask me what I'd do if they canceled the race. Apparently they didn't read the "don't talk about the weather" sign I was wearing. arghh! :-P

The only think I don't care for is a headwind. If you're dressed for it rain/snow and cold are all ok.

I checked and noted below some of the changes to the forecast over just the past couple of days. I think a lot can change in five days. Lets hope for the best.

Monday April 9th 7 days out:
Weather.com: Cloudy 44/37 chance of prec 10%

Tuesday April 10th 6days out:
NWS: Mostly cloudy High in mid50s chance of prec 30%
Weather.com: Cloudy 50/36 chance of prec 10%

Wednesday, April 11th 5days out:
NWS: Rain likely. Rain may be heavy at times in the morning. Highs in low 40s chance of prec 70%
Weather.com: Rain 45/35 chance of prec 70%

http://edited as NWS just updated (weather.unisys.com)

detailed wind-tunnel studies have shown that in a headwind a smile is ten times more aerodynamic than a frown. and apparently laughing helps to break the laminar flow into more turbulent flow and again decreases drag.

i plan to smile and laugh the whole way.

Kind of the reasoning for why I ordered the MarathonDVD again. If the weather is like forecasted, I want the drowned rate video...

I have been trying desperatly to not concentrate on the weather...
We are arriving tomorrow afternoon and leaving on the 21st..We have many sigh-seeing plans....

And my daughter and niece are flying in to see me at "heatrtbreak"

I had many people ask me today if they would cancel the race..I said "no-way"...."only if safety is an issue"

But who knows at this stage....

One thing is for sure...the forecast looks worse than awful.....

Tim,
Ardmore, OK.

Just remember everyone.

"We are running Boston" I for one look forward to enjoying it no matter what. PR's can be saved for another day...
