One More...
This is why I put my money on Tall

"1899

At 173 pounds, Cambridge blacksmith Lawrence Brignolia is the heaviest runner ever to win the Boston Marathon. Brignolia, who seemed quite suited to tackle the strong gale-like winds that hampered runners the entire way, caught Harvard alumnus Dick Grant on the Newton hills, and finished in 2:54:38. The strength of the winds reportedly caused Brignolia to step on a loose stone and fall during his approach to Kenmore Square. Stopping to regain his composure, Brignolia walked and ran the remaining distance to the new finish line on Exeter Street, in front of the B.A.A. clubhouse. "

I am happy to see that this thread has taken on a more optimistic, adventurous note and that most of you are going into this adventure with a positive attitude.

I will never forget Boston in '84, driving rain and sleet and cold temperatures. No one ran well, but each of us has a memory of that race we will never forget. You mention Boston '04 in that heat and any runner knows exactly what you endured (or didn't, in my case).

You all know how to prepare for this race, and your enjoyment of this special day is entirely up to you. Smile your way through the whole thing, and you may be pleasantly surprised about your performance.

In many ways you are the fortunate ones, who will have the opportunity to run what may go down in the BAA annals as one of the most "interesting" races of them all. You will be a part of it. (I know this smacks a little of Henry IV at Agincourt, but you see the idea here.)

Stay positive, run confidently. Savor the experience. Spareribs

You guys. Dont look more than a day or two ahead in the forecast for New England. It changes daily. I know. I live here and know you cant trust it more than a day or two.

Anybody can run the marathon in 50/60 degree temps with the sun beaming down. It is the chosen few that will run on a day like Monday.

Again, I wish you BBB runners the best! I don't know if anything I can say will help or encourage you, if you're worried about the weather, but I'll try anyway.

You are my heroes. I would do anything to be in your shoes (as long as they're Asics GT-2080's). Regardless of the weather now, the day you qualified to be there was your Perfect Storm.

Sing this to the tune of Gilligan?s Island:

Just sit right back and you?ll hear a tale ? a tale of a fateful race
That wends its way through Beantown ? with a Nor?easter in your face.
Tallrunner was a mighty racing man ? PBJ like an escaped con
The runners toed the starting line for a three hour ?thon, which starts in Hopkinton.

The weather kept on getting worse
The pessimists did pout,
If not for the spirit of the Pro and crew
The monsoon would win out, the Boomers would drop out.

They kissed the ground on Boylston Street, once they crossed the finish line,
With MCSolar, Hermosaboy, Doc Robin, and Egret,
Winejunky, Sans Souci and Bobscamman
Are here at the Boston Blowout.

I predict running apparel with "This is not baseball!" on it. Great quote!
