race seeding question

In the big races wtih different distances..10K, half and full marathon, do they seed the marathoners differently than the half marathoners?

So if your predicted finish time means you plan on running 10 minute miles, would they seed you in a different corral depending on if you were running the half or the full?

I would have thought they would stick all the 10mm people together regardless of what length they were going.

I've never been in a race with corrals except for Boston.

At the Hartford Marathon (with a half marathon mixed in the same start) they put up big signs with finish times (like 3:00, 3:15, 3:30). Then they announce for people to place themselves correctly. But no mention to the halfers.

At other races like the Hyannis Marathon, with a half AND a 10k mixed in, they simply said faster runners should be near the front. Those that are slow, pushing something, taking dogs, etc should not impede the faster runners.

I have not heard the term "seeding runners" before. I am inferring that it means to separate by pace - is that correct?

Maybe that's the secret to Kenya dominance in long distance running. Huge fields of runners that are harvested just prior to major championships.

Holly, a lot of larger marathons have pace corrals and most professional races ensure that elite runners start at the front.
