Just a short little run this morning to loosen up the joints before tomorrow AM. 2.03 miles in 18:32 (9:08 pace). It's starting to get mighty windy out there as the "monsoon" rolls toward us...

Marathon Eve Greetings ~

~> Early morn 8er under leaden, foreboding skies. Déjà vu all over again as I once more tackled greater Boston's micro-Mt. Washington, Summit Ave. in the 'burb of Brookline. Proverbial calm before the storm, though there was a bit of a pushy easterly headwind on the return leg; harbinger of things to come.

~> Awe-inspiring display of nature's fury on tap for tonight; still hopeful that the worst of the meganor'easter of Biblical proportions will blow through overnight and will be gradually winding down by 'thon time. We'll see if numerous sacrifices to the Weather Gods have any effect.

.... Heading back out to Brookline later this morn on the subway this time for Böömer Brunch @ Henry and Marj's. Should be a blast !

^^ ! FLEET FEET, BOSTON BOOMER CREW ! ^^

Re: Sunday April 15 Boomer Runs
I sure hope the weather forecast changes in a hurry up in Beantown. Looking like a washout. Bummer.

I had flashbacks this morning to my marathon and to last August's long runs. The heat and humidity were way up today - this was easily the hottest weather since last fall. And the wind was howling out of the South at about 25 to 30 mph. Ughh.

So it was a major struggle to get through the 14.5 miles this morning in a very, very slow 9:40 min/mile pace. Exactly the pace I ran the marathon in basically the sme weather. Flashbacks. I'm really glad this one is over ... 44 miles for the week.

Re: Sunday April 15 Boomer Runs
Slow 6 miler for me today on the TM at a 10:00 pace. I am sore as heck from doing something stupid yesterday. My son and I were riding bikes in the park and I started doing tricks and wheelies (guess I thought I was 10 again). Anyway I ended up flat on my back with the bike coming down right on top of me. I heard some kid say "wow, that was a cool crash". I didn't even want to get up! I am actually feeling a lot better today after the slow run and another bike ride with my son (minus the wheelies). Good runs to all today.

Good Morning Boomers!

Go Mrs. Roy!

Breger ? funny to hear you call 9:40 a very, very, slow pace. 9:40 is kind of brisk for me. Some runs are just at the very best when you are rounding the corner for home.

7.1 easy-paced miles for me today (10:31 ave. pace) in 35(feels like 25) degrees with 20 mph winds. There were times when I felt like I was running in place. I didn?t want to get out there today. Unexpected onset of early morning cramps explained why I?ve been eating everything that wasn?t nailed down for the last couple of days. I felt like a slug, but was very happy that I suited up and ran, as I always am.

Hope there will be lots of pictures of the Boomer gatherings. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is milder than predicted. It could happen.

Off to church and then more prom dress shopping, for me, as silly as it sounds, (for the Time Warp Prom). Trying to decide whether to go as a retro Disco Donna or in a retro Prom Formal look.

Happy Sunday!

Good Morning!

Nice crash Sarg. Glad nothing damaged.

Did 50 minutes Elliptical on MAX BURN followed by 10 min cool down. That made the AHR 167 for the 50 min and 143 for the cool down. It was like climbing Mt Washington.

Have great runs!

Re: Sunday April 15 Boomer Runs
morning boomers,

that sounds like fun, perch. are your toes ok? how's Tory? Sadie is going nuts, i'm still not outside & might not be for a while yet... while i was getting ready for the treadmill she started running through the house with a toy & looking so happy & eager. made me feel awful!

BTW, I may have been just a little under-qualified to analyse my own test results. the doc called Friday & wants a follow up to something he saw on the stress-echo results, so I have to see a cardiologist. But I don't think it's a big deal, just a trivial pericardial effusion. I still think the iron was a big part of it, & I still am so much better.

This morning it was a carpy run. I felt like i was running in place too. "Now, here you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that." Still, I did 5.55 TM miles. which is my most ever, even before whatever it was that happened in January. doesn't sound like much after reading this thread so far, but I was happy.. I had a harder time keeping my heart rate down, I think it's time for that 75% reduction for a week that nighthawk talked about. It's overdue anyway, but it's hard to make yourself do that. Did anybody else ever feel like you'd never get there? (where ever there is..)

I too hope so much the weather eases in Boston. Too depressing to watch the weather channel this morning.

I'm with Holly on BergerB's 9.40 pace. Also on wanting lots of Boomer photos. with names, please. Holly, prom photos too. :-)

sfch, I'm glad you weren't hurt!

DaveinAA, I hope your foot's ok.

yay Mrs. Roy.

robin, all of you, fleet feet & happy hearts.

Morning Boomers
Cool morning but I still managed 10 miles with a smile.
All Boston runners bless you for having the fortune of running the best marathon anywhere on this planet.
Have fun, enjoy the experience, be safe for another day.
I think the weather may break for you.

Re: Sunday April 15 Boomer Runs
Steady rain and 45F, but without the predicted 20 mph winds. I struggled through my run, thankfully scared off of the MP workout which was on the Pfitz plan, as I wouldn't have been able to do it today.

At one point in my neighborhood a car was pulling out of the driveway, and I could see that the driver didn't see me, so I decided to go in front of it. Well, it turns out the car was just being repositioned and as I was passing in front, the driver put it in drive and started moving foward. Luckily I was 3/4 of the way past it, so I could put my hand on the right quarterpanel and hop out of the way. Nobody's fault really -- who would expect a runner to appear in the place where the car just was.

Run swiftly, beantown racers.

17.2 miles 2:24 (8:22/mi)

Re: Sunday April 15 Boomer Runs
Yesterday: 32 minutes on the elliptical, 30 minutes upper body weights.

Today: 20 wet cold miserable miles in 3:31:17, 10:31 pace. It wasn't quite as windy as had been predicted, but it sure wasn't pleasant out there. 44F with a steady cold rain.

I do hope our Boston contingent escapes the brunt of this.

Re: Sunday April 15 Boomer Runs
Happy penultimate day of marathoning for all the Boston Boomers!! I was ready to make it down to Freedom run this morning, but am off to watch DD's dance comp in Worcester and had too much stuff to try and get done before departing. Of course, since I slept in a little, I got to run in the rain, so it serves me right for skipping. Hope everyone had a great brunch and even more, runs their best race possible tomorrow.

For me today 3.2 untimed. I know it's too soon for the new exercises that I'm doing to have any effect, but I think the extra stretching that is included helps a lot. A solid week off probably didn't hurt. no knee barking on this run, so I'm encouraged.

M/M roy--that's a great run. the distance is growing in leaps and bounds!! And I'd love to see a cracking day around here. Still haven't had a run in shorts yet this spring.

Re: Sunday April 15 Boomer Runs
Welcome, milo. We'll be glad for your company and wisdom from many years of running. runwun, congrats on your speedy 5K and AG win. nice job, ksrunner on your 60 mile week. DaveinAA, sorry to hear about the foot issue. I hope that the Dr. appointment gets things back the way they should be. Fortunate, congrats on your 10K PR. I thought you were supposed to take it easy in a taper, though. roch, way to go on the speedy 8 mile run. Robin, that credit card episode sounds a bit creepy and unpleasant. Evan, congrats on your big 5K PR. roy, congrats to mrsroy on her longest run yet. sfch, sorry to hear about the bike crash and the subsequent soreness. dg9, I hope your follow up with the cardiologist is all good news.

Nice long runs for Flying (and big week and back home by now), DaveinAA, TMWIP, Holly, bigguy, goofy, millbot, hopeful, Tramps, caddis (progression), munch, canfit, Lab, breger (with heat and wind), milo, WRFB, and PDR. Good job on the speedwork for glidegal and WRFB.

I'll chime in late on the discussion about all the demands on time that so many of you have. As an old retired guy whose kids are grown, I can look back on those times without having to live them any more. I well remember having both of us working, me also teaching part time at a local community college, the kids having activities most nights after school, and keeping up with things at home. I was just getting started running when only one kid was at home and didn't really get ramped up until they both were gone and I gave up the part time job. It was tough and my sympathies are with you who are in the midst of it now. If it's any consolation, we made it to retirement and will hopefully be able to survive comfortably from here on out and the kids seem to have turned out fine. In retrospect, it was worth the effort. So to all of you, hang in there, there is a payoff down the road.

This morning it was about 30 with just a light wind. I got in 8 miles in about 1:15:30 for a 9:25 pace.

A good day and good runs for all.

4 recovery miles in a nor'easter. 45 degrees, a 20-30 mph wind and heavy rain.

Just one of those runs where you leave take of your shoes outside and jump in the shower in your running gear to warm up.

I almost had Central Park to myself, Everyone else must be recovering from the Brooklyn Half-Marathon
