{{{mrs roy c's knee}}}

Roy c, are you supposed to combine easy MAF runs with a hard hilly ending?

Actually, I have a lovely 6-pack. Unfortunately, you can't really see it under my potbelly...

Ah well, it's enough that I know it's in there, somewhere...

Mary, glad you slept. we had one of those dogs too. sounds like you're doing really well, & your 1/2 miles didn't do you in.

Holly, I want that pace at that hr! did you do anything specific -- maf or some other version, or was it just general training, or ???

Debbie ? I don?t know. I guess just general training. Most of my runs are fairly slow and easy-paced, but I do throw in some type of speed work usually once a week. I think I tend to be a lazy runner, running slow with a perceived level of much difficulty, but with a low HR. Then, when I force myself to run faster, I find there is a lot more there (speed/endurance) if I dig for it. This is why I was so surprised when my HR was high during my marathon, when I was just plodding along slowly. In training my HR was usually fairly low.

Re: Wed Boomer Runs 4/18
Not quite the beautiful morning here that everyone else is enjoying. 43F, cloudy, and 20-25 mph NW winds -are we ever NOT going to have these winds!

First attempt at intervals since last year.
5x800 with a 400 easy
3:08
3:13
3:12
3:26
3:22
Can you tell when I turned into the wind.
Legs felt dead, but these weren't as bad as I originally thought.

Enjoy your day/run everyone.

Holly, do you have a 305? When I got mine a year ago I was looking forward to using the HRM, but that's the one feature that simply does not work for me. It will pick up my resting heart rate, but as soon as I start running it starts losing the signal. I have tried a number of things, wearing the band very tight and with electrode gel on it and a fresh battery, but without much luck.

One thing that Garmin mentions is problems when wearing synthetic shirts that can cause static, etc., and they recommend wearing cotton instead. Like I'm going to go back to cotton! So I rarely try the HRM any more.

Gym workout this afternoon:

Stretching
100 pushups
100 situps
30 bench dips
100 dumbell curls, each arm
30 leg presses

That was all I had time for. I'll be back in the gym later tonight.

Re: Wed Boomer Runs 4/18
Roch,

I would suggest you call Garmin Support on that. Something is definitely not right. Perhaps the HR strap?

I've had my Garmin 305 for over a year and it picks up the HR perfectly and I wear synthetic shirts all the time - never cotton. I've never heard of a problem where it won't pick up the HR (other than for the 1st 1/3 mile or so as you warm up).
