Re: Sunday, April 22 Boomer Runs
Instead of running I rode my bike down to watch the finish of a run, bike, kayak triathlon that is held every year in town. The race starts about 70 miles away in the Beartooth Mtns and ends on the Yellowstone River about 5 miles from my house. A lot of people do it solo but there are also relay teams. I was originally going to do the 8.8 mile running leg but the other 2 women backed out and it's hard to find a kayaker. Maybe next year....

15 miles total on the bike. Gorgeous day too -- about 70 degrees and partly cloudy.

Re: Sunday, April 22 Boomer Runs
18 miles in rare (maybe first time ever) day of double morning/afternoon running in 12th run of year pushing mileage into the triple digits at 114 miles.

Rainy Saturday deferred this weekend's run to a sunny Earth Day today makin' me think of the first one our college did 28 years ago with Senator Gaylord Nelson, Arthur Godfrey and other luminaries so, while econo was gettin' wet so early in the season today in her first tri (rr please - eta -thank you ), I ran by roosters, geese and rabbits, yaezu cherry bloosoms, dogwoods, rhododendrons, forget-me-nots, lilacs, tulip beds, and first-of-the-season of Sally's Sitka roses[/URL" target="_blank"> (are they?) and a Michelangelo-like David I noticed for the first time in Olympic View Park but without such big hands for 13.5 miles.

It's still so nice maybe 4.5 miles more to catch up to you-know-who.
eta - yup, did it after a six hour respite. Warm pavement felt good on the soles.

Re: Sunday, April 22 Boomer Runs
Nice 20 miler there Gordon. I hope this bodes well for all of your upcoming races.

3 itsy, bitsy recovery miles for me in 24:25. I either have a bout of tendinitis on the top of my right foot near the ankle (I had this last year on my left one), or the dreaded stress fracture. I feel a noticeable discomfort with this foot on each running step it takes. I'll probably be able to figure out what it is tomorrow when I wake up and poke and prod the foot to see what kind of pain I can produce. I'll just have to wait and see...

Re: Sunday, April 22 Boomer Runs
8 miles on paved roads today, being the longest run in 6 weeks, and the first time back on pavement in 6 weeks.
Took my time and went as slow as I could, averaging around 10:30 or thereabouts. Hard to tell as I had to take many detours due to traffic and was not sure of the milage, it could have been 8.3 or so. I had a kind of tingling sensation in the tendons in the ankle area during the run, and still do even now, some 4 or 5 hours later, but it never progressed to pain.
So, other than the avenue of the giants half marathon in 2 weeks which I'm now treating as a long slow run, I believe I'll just stay on trails or treadmills for a while. Of course, if I get a goddess proposition, my best intentions go right out the window .

good running to all

John

eta: labduck, sounds suspicously like my problem, hope you're OK

hmm. serendipity. imagine. .. longest run in a long time.. nice!

mc... do the tines cross? even twistier.

thanks John (lrr). it sounds like it's working. I do different things but might try & make them more differentiated.

Yes, PJ! I am always in awe. But I'm happy where I'm at. Congratulations to you, too!"

thanks elaine. the awe I've managed with no problem. happy where I'm at? not even close. will try harder.

DaveinAA, 10 miles, it sounds like you're doing really well. not that I'd know. are you? re burns park, I just volunteered. I feel like a slacker, but it seemed like it was too soon to run it.

roch, that sounds a long drive to me. we used to drive from columbus to roanoke with 4 of us in the back of a station wagon.. I hope you enjoy your trip. A few days ago I asked if mrs. roch was enjoying running , & smiling. I'd forgotten that she was headed to visit her sister, & that things weren't going well. I'm sorry to be such an oaf.

mike (goofyguy) thanks filling me in re Rose, & of course, you're welcome. I have a link that could at least possibly help a little if she's still having problems with thoracic outlet syndrome. say hello for me.

mr. beer, is that like your staying out of the way when pdr clears the driveway of ice?

Holly, are you going to paint your toes? (quote)"In truth, my anger over this is fueled by my fear for him."
I know. I have 2 brothers that have had really serious complications from diabetes. A lot of it has come from not taking care of themselves. It makes me feel really helpless. It's bad enough with my brothers, can't even imagine it if it was my husband.

11 miles in 1:40 today. Zowee, that's 9:05! There was a tempo segment in the middle, which pulled the overall pace down, but (more important), the run was net downhill. That was fun. I was cooking. :-)

Great runs, everyone!

Tammy, mark me for one who thought you were going to catch a manatee. I was thinking that wasn't very Earth Day like. Hope you enjoyed the show and your ankle gets happy fast.

Did some one say oatmeal rasin cookies?

lots of long runs today, Sweet. DW may ride the bike on my next LR.

Finished planting our trees today. Earth Day Rocks. The kids are gone for the night. DW is watching TV. I'll have time to go flex in front of the mirror.

Huzzah, Finn!
FO, that fast 5 won't hurt. Feel the taper!
Dark Horse, thank you for your efforts but pls don't knock yourself out looking. What are the chances?
PNW boys and girls are cookin' today. Hope everything is okay, John (great to see you running), Lab. Hey, Sally! Cake will be history tonight (sniff, sniff).

Tri of sorts to honour my fren Econo and Earth Day:

1 - De-Clampett the yard (not there quite yet, Ellie May)
2 - Pull some weeds in the rain. Makes it easy.
3 - Inaugural post-Beantown run (at long last) in the trees. 7k. Slug pace.

Crispy critter calves today likely caused by brutal form on the elliptical. I think I tried to "glue" my feet to the pedals. Buh.

Asparagus and "rogue" parsnip and potatoes from the garden tonight. Yesssss!

Re: Sunday, April 22 Boomer Runs
Dearest SS, I pulled some weeds today too, but I was hesitant to mention it being Earth Day and all that. So, it's okay to kill weeds on Earth Day?

I feel a smidgen of less guilt now, although a smidgen was all I had.

Re: Sunday, April 22 Boomer Runs
3.4 miles this nice evening. Six beautiful deer scared the daylights out of me.....(or was it that I scared six beautiful deer?) In either case, when I came back around the second time for this loop, I saw 2 of them back out on the edge of the woods looking at me as I ran by.

By the way, Tom White, ....I have meant to mention that the package arrived and I greatly appreciate the shirt. Thanks so much for this.

I felt the best running tonight that I have in the 3 weeks since the HM. Hopefully I am getting back on track

Re: Sunday, April 22 Boomer Runs
Was going to drive down into town to find some flatter land, but was lazy. So, I walked down the Big hill I live on, then ran down the hill with some uphills too.. I guess you call those rolling hills.. ran 1.75 mile & then for some unknown reason thought I should head back on the mostly uphill (really cuz I didn't want to walk 3 miles back).. big mistake, I only made it to 1.87 & my HR was going crazy, so decided to walk for awhile.. walking back, decided I shouldn't push it & walked the rest of the way back, 1.87 miles running/2.13 walking total 1hr 4 minutes/ hey at least first mile was 11:40 & second was 12:28....

oh well.. next time I'll drive into town.

but one good thing, the last time I did this run, I got really sick because I didn't listen to the body, yay that I did today.

John - hmmm can we find some flat land? lol if you want to slow down a little, we could do that run. guess now would be the time, before you get all speedy again!
