Weightloss Pact II, Week 1

Okay folks, Week 2 of the Sequel. I?m down ½ lb. It would have been better, but that darn Easter candy is slowing my progress. Maybe I need to just sit down and eat the whole giant bowl to have it done with. It really didn?t seem like that much candy when I was buying it. Luckily the robin eggs are almost gone, but the mini-Snickers are still in force. Note to self - next year the Easter Bunny needs to bring treats that I don't particularly like.

The annoying thing is that I am still only a total of 2.5 lbs down from the FIRST Weightloss Pact. It may take me 10 weeks to lose the 5 lbs that I want to lose. As much as I run, I should be a stick! I have trouble believing how difficult it is to lose such a small amount of weight.

Re: Weightloss Pact II, Week 1
Holly, I can totally relate! I'm still down the 5 pounds I lost with the last challenge, but nothing since! That includes running a very hilly 1/2 marathon on Sunday, working out this week, and loweing my calories... you'd think I could see a little movement on the scale. I've said no to 2 office lunches and a birthday party last night (so I could run of course!).

I really expected to see a loss today, but I didn't. I notice when the scale hits the "5" or the "0", which are the primary marks on the scale (as in 145 or 150 or 155, etc) the scale takes a long time to budge off that mark. But once I get to say 144 or 143 (which are smaller marks on the scale), I can see movement at a regular pace. It's like the scale just likes it on the primary marks! So, goal is to get that scale off the 145 mark so I can see more progress! (Hint, I don't have a digital scale, obviously!)

I guess we just have to keep at it, right? The real goal is to make it to 140 by summer, so we just have to keep the faith.

Re: Weightloss Pact II, Week 1
Hang in there!! Let's see last week I was 136.8, I can't even remember where I started with the first weight loss pact.. maybe 2 pounds down. (so don't feel bad Holly) I am 5 pounds down since the beginning of the year though, so that's gotta be good! My goal is 130. My build is med-framed.. am barely 5'4 My body type just never would allow me to get to 110.. its all very interesting to me with the different body types, weights, etc. Have finally learned to accept them after all these years.

When I first lost weight I was in a "lose it no matter what" mode. Now, I am more in the lifestyle change & lets see if you can maintain this for life mode. So, its taking a lot longer, but I think its a healthier way to do it.

Sherie - how tall are you?

Re: Weightloss Pact II, Week 1
Well, guys, you're all doing well compared to me! I'm up by .4 of a lb this week! But no one to blame but myself. But boy, I'm hungry and I want to eat! And I'm certainly being careful, but I know I'm not sticking to 1600 cals per day, like I probably should be. It's usually more like 1900 or so.

I keep saying it - but it's so much easier to lose and maintain when not running so much. When I get home from my run after 7 pm at night, I could eat a house!

Ironically, most people would look at us and say we are sticks, Holly - but we each have our "comfort zone" and want to get there. I always think - if I can gain 5 lbs, then the next thing you know, I'll be up by 10, etc. So, it's best to put a stop to it before it gets to that point.

Re: Weightloss Pact II, Week 1
Live and learn, you and I are probably about the same size. I'm 5'6 and I currently weigh 145. My goal is 140. My mom say's every inch gives you another 5 pounds, so you and I are probably a close match! I'm actually happy at this weight of 145, but you know how that goes... a few pounds up and I'll be hitting the 150's again - so best to get to 140 and use the 5 pound up rule from there. I'd love to hit 140 by the time I go on vacation June 7th, that will give me the wiggle room I need to indulge a little more since that's what vacations are all about!

Boy isn't that the truth! Seems like it used to be you would know one or two people who were "heavy" (the term my mom always told me to use... "don't call them fat, they're heavy" and I would say, "but mom, they're heavy cuz they're fat!") but now it seems like it's one or two thin people among all the "heavy" people you know. Sad situation for our country (and not just ours, btw...). Also sad going to school functions and seeing so many "heavy" kids, many of them very much so. Glad mine are so active and lean...

I was up two pounds from last weekend, which is probably ok. I dropped a lot pretty fast last week when dh was gone. It was really late when I got home last night so I had supper really late. That always throws me off the next day.
Karen, I agree it seems it was easier to lose/maintain when not running, but I did lose a lot of baby weight from working out. Strange how running sometimes works the other way.
derrick, can't wait to hear about your marathon! What one is it? I do the Equinox every September, which is more of a trail/rock scramble endurance contest than a race! Huge hills through the whole thing.
Sherie, sometimes those scales are so stubborn. I swear it's all their fault. On body shape/size, I'm tall and "rangy" and look thinner than I am... but I get "soft" looking in my belly sometimes, and I feel better at the lower end. Most people are surprised I weigh as much as I do (I love tricking the carnies who guess weight!).

Re: Weightloss Pact II, Week 1
I don't weigh in until tomorrow - not sure if I'm excited or dreadful of what the results will be. I think I did good.

Holly - do you think you eat enough for all the running you do? Maybe your body is trying to hold onto what "little" fat it has . . . . just a though!? Still 1/2 pound is good. How about giving away the rest of that Easter Candy - take it to work, mailman, paper boy . . .

Sherie - I loose weights in segments too. Seems like I can't loose one pound to save my soul and then all of a sudden 3 are gone. Hang in there!

Live and Learn - You are doing good! I agree slow and steady is the best way to loose.

Karen - are you training for a long distance race? If not, maybe back down the miles a little to loose those pesky pounds. .4 pounds isn't too awful - you'll loose it plus some I am sure!

Gordon - How nice to eat like a bear and stay the same!!

Batman- have fun on your trail marathon! WooHoo on the 2 pounds down!!

Evanflein - Yeah for gaining 2 pounds? I know you've been dealing with a lot lately. Take a deep breath and let go . . . I'm the same as you with the belly thing, and also people are surprised I weigh what I do.

I'm 5'6 and like to weigh 130-132. Anything less than that and I start getting accused of being anorexic! I say People! Have ya seen me eat??? Never gonna happen . . . .

Okay - can you tell I got alot of time on my hands at work today? oy!

Re: Weightloss Pact II, Week 1
Mary, amen. I eat like a teenage boy sometimes (I have one so I know how much they eat!). So I guess I can't blame the running... But even when I'm being careful and tracking everything (which I'll do every now and then, but only for a couple days at a time), it seems I just stay put or gain a bit.

Holly, wanted to add I think about your comment a lot: "with all the running I do you'd think I'd be a stick!" I think of that as I'm trotting along on my runs... then I think about what I'm going to eat after I'm done and I have to chuckle. Hey, it's a cycle, ya know?

Re: Weightloss Pact II, Week 1
Sherie - I think you've got a good theory about the scale sitting on the large divisions longer than the in-between numbers. I have one of those digital scales that only measures by 0.2 lbs, so it makes me kind of mad that I never see a .5 on it - only .2, .4 ,.6, etc.

Live and Learn - I agree that the way we're trying to shed a few pounds right now is much healthier than some of the methods we've used in the past. Nice and slow. Although frustrating at times.

Lyndenrunner - at least you maintained this week - good for you!

Derrick - good luck on your run this weekend, and congrats on your nice loss this week.

dg9 - Glad to hear you're in for this Pact.

ksrunr - staying the same is much better than gaining, so that's not bad!

evanflein - I hope this week is better and less stressful than last for you .

hopeful4ever - Good luck with your weigh-in tomorrow morning. It's always exciting to get up in the morning when you know you're going to have a good weigh-in! And yes, I'm training for a marathon at the end of May, so I'm right at my highest mileage right now - up to 65 miles per week. I'm hoping that after this run is done, I'll be able to go back to a more reasonable schedule and lose those last few pesky lbs, if I'm not able to between now and then.
