How to measure V02 Max?

Hi all, I started training with an HRM and one of the parameters I am interested in is the VO2 Max. Have any one of you tried to have your VO2 Max measured in a doctor's office or sports clinic? I am curious about the proceess e.g. Does insurance cover it? Can I go to my physician and ask for referral etc? Any feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks!

My answer wont shed any light on the subject for you cause I don't remember what the result was when I got tested or how they did it cause at the time they were testing so many things I didn't know. I had participated in a study about altitude training's affect on distance running, I was one of the many guinea pigs. BTW, if anybody else out there participated in that study in the summer of 1995 would love to hear from you. I've lost touch with everyone I met that summer. Anyway, I remember seeing that my MaxVO2 was not as good as I would like but I am sure that the fact I have asthma doesn't help.My coach in college always had us doing MaxVO2 workouts ( those were the KILLER workouts that you wanted to go home and whimper after). Ah, those were the days....lol.
