Since I didn't race in this, I don't really have a race report to write, so I guess mine is more of a social report (as if that should be a surprise to anyone! LOL ) Actually, if I wasn't running in the Avenue this coming weekend, I most likely would have had the Eugene Half Marathon be my debut HM. I think though that I'll be here next year for sure for either the half or full depending on where I'm at in my training at that point.
Eugene is most definitely a fun town. I love every opportunity that I have to go up there, which usually ends up being for CLE's I attend. Linda and I left my house around 10:30 and arrived in Eugene by 12:30 or so. We checked in at our hotel, which was a short walk to Hayward Field. We headed over to the Expo where we later met up with Econo, John2635 and then Tet. Next, we piled in to Econo's vehicle and she took us on a nice little tour of some running sights - Amazon trail where we all ran a 1 mile loop on this wonderful woodchip path, Pre's accident site, a bit of the University campus, etc.
We dropped Tet and John off at the restaurant so they could get us a nice big table as soon as they opened and then Econo, Linda and I headed back to my hotel room to change into evening attire. ok - well, Econo changed into evening attire

My feet would scream in those spike heels, but Econo, the fashionista that she is, looked quite hawt

I'm sure DH would approve.
We had a wonderful dinner! (nice choice Econo!) Econo, Tet, John, Linda, RLemert and folks, Duckgeek and Ms.DG, (boomers? I don't think so!), MRasmussen and wife and then winejunky was at a nearby table. Close enough to hear what was going on but wanting to keep his distance lest anyone think he actually associated with such a strange bunch

Mariposai showed up a bit later and she is just as lovely in real life as she comes across on this board.

(I hope I'm not forgetting anyone? I don't think so).
John, Tet, Linda, Mariposai and I walked back to the hotel and stopped along Hayward Field to read some of the plaques outside the front gate. You can just "feel" the history of this place. It was wonderful. John took off a bit later to head back home. it was so nice of him to come up for the day and I know everyone really appreciated it.
Next morning we were up bright and early for Race Day! and if my husband doesn't think runners are crazy enough - travelling, getting up when it's dark, paying money to run on the streets, paying for hotels, etc. Now he knows I'm even crazier because this time I did all that and I wasn't even registered to run! But how could I pass up an opportunity to see so many boomers, cheer them on and be a part of the excitement of an inaugural race. I ran the first 5 miles with Tet and felt almost "bandit-ish" - especially when he asked me quitely loudly "oh Miss, where is your bib number??"

I felt like I was running with a celebrity because we hardly ever went 1 minute without folks on the sidelines yelling out to the "barefoot runner" - either shouts of "doesn't that hurt your feet" or "YAY! A barefoot runner! right on!!" or just shouts of encouragement to such a stud!
I dropped off to the sidelines at mile 5 and headed back to my hotel where I waited for Linda to return from her 5K. Then her and I headed over the boomer aid station but got a bit lost and turned around, so missed seeing Winejunky, Duckgeek, Rasmussen and a few others too I think. Lab was a gem for getting there early, setting up and cheering on not only boomers but other folks he knew.
Shortly before Mariposai's ETA, I run up the marathon course (like a fish swimming upstream!) to meet her and provide her with her sekrit elixir. I felt terrible that she had had the IT pain bothering her for so long and having had IT problems myself, I just cannot imagine pushing myself through that pain. Her mental fortitude and dedication is awe inspiring! I rolled the Stick out on her legs a bit and then she was off again.
A bit later, I swam upstream again to meet Tet and then ran back to our aid station with him. And as you can see from above, he had to make time in his day for all the photo ops he could

.
Tet was the last from our group going by, so we folded up camp and headed over to Econo's for the post-race festivities. Econo was a wonderful hostess - provided lots of food and beverages (read: beer) and Econoboy even grilled up brats. Nice young man you have there Econo!
eta: A nice surprise that happened at Econo's was a phone call from none other than ThePro! It was nice chatting with you for a bit Ciarg!
Linda and I headed back south around 3:30. We had a great time in Eugene! Everything was just spectacular!!
Congratulations again to Econo for such a smashing good 5K!
