Nice thread, Tamster.

Re: How far have you travelled for a race?
Hi glidegal. I'd run just the half, which I've done before. It certainly lives up to its name -- pancake flat course, out in the countryside. Can have some wind, though, because there's nothing to protect you. If you need spectators to keep you going, pass on this one. (As much as I prefer less crowds, I'm not sure how I'd feel about the full.) If I recall correctly, I think Dove ran the full last year and talked about being bored.

That said, it's my favorite half marathon in the area. Well organized; nice tech shirt; Erin's Breakfast cookies at the finish.

Re: How far have you travelled for a race?
When I was living in Belgium we travelled from Herchies, Belgium to Grafenwhor, Germany for the European Army 10 Miler. Don't know how many miles it was, but I do remember that it was 8-9 hours of hauling butt on the autobahn!

Re: How far have you travelled for a race?
The farthest I've gone for a run is from Washington State to Switzerland (Zermatt & Jungfrau Marathons) - it is primarily a family bicycle vacation, but my wife usually plans it so I can get a run in.

I consistly have gone from Washington State to SE Wisconsin (Ice Age Trail) and to Pikes Peak (Colorado).

Boston, MA to Myrtle Beach, SC. Planned a weekend fly-in visit with my parents, who are retired in Surfside Beach, to coincide with a 4-mile road race in Pawleys Island. PR'ed in the race, and both DW and I placed in AG's too!

Re: How far have you travelled for a race?
Farthest traveled to do a race.

Mid-Michigan to San Francisco for a 10 mile race 2390 miles one way. Had to use up airline tickets so scheduled the location around a race and made it a 5 day trip that included hiking in Muir Woods.

To Washington DC for the Nike Cherry Blossom 10 miler?.. 580 miles one way.

Farthest driven??. 301 miles (one way) to Schaumburg, IL for the Motorola Half Marathon.

Re: How far have you travelled for a race?

I've flown across the country a few times for races, but on May 9th I leave DC for Beijing to run the Great Wall Half Marathon. I call it more of an adventure than a race.

Re: How far have you travelled for a race?

I thought I had some big distances, but New Zealand, India ... Wow!

Flown from Florida to Dublin, Ireland, for the Castleknock College Cross Country. To Anchorage, Alaska, for Humpy's Marathon. To Portland, Maine, for Beach to Beaon. Also Lake Tahoe, Aruba, Freeport, Bahamas, Cancun, By car toThe Great Race in Pittsburgh, Peachtree in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Maggie Valley, NC, Myrtle Beach, Crescent City Classic in New Orleans. We have a loosely-organized group who take a trip together every year to run a race and vacation together - anywhere from 3 days in New Orleans to a 2-week tour of Ireland. The 2008 trip is probably going to be to Panama.

(Of course at this age and having been running for almost 30 years, I can't even remember all the places I have run.)
