Re: Sat May 12th Boomer Runs
I was thinking of getting up early to run but slept in, and that's okay. I think I'm finally caught up on sleep. DW & DS are out of town at a soccer tournament, so after some errands, DD & I went to the Y and hit the cardio room. She did one of her longest workouts ever while I ran on the mill then showered. I did 5.57 easy miles, resting HR 48, average 139, max 152, and I felt great! My HR is always higher indoors. It would have been in the 120's outside this morning. It's just too darn hot now to run outside. I just finished mowing the front yard, and fortunately I have an excuse not to mow the back. She has a choir concert.

Re: Sat May 12th Boomer Runs
Good afternoon all,
just to contradict roy (Hi Roy!) I did my first workout since the race, a run/bike bricklet. Started with one slokey-pokey mile of running, then 5.6 miles on my DD2's bike. Just enough to get a taste of warm wind on my skin . As a precaution I am icing my knee now, and I will have an appointment with my foam roller later on .
Good luck Susan, you will do great! Your first half marathon is a celebration of how far you have come, so don't be scared, rather enjoy every moment!
Sooo that's where Dark Horse is! I was wondering... I can't wait for the full account (rubbing hands together)...
The PBJ family is planning to celebrate Mother's Day in style, I see.
Kimble, I used to be a choir singer in my younger days. I loved it! The height of my "career" was singing second soprano in Mozart's Requiem, an unforgettable experience. have a great concert tonight!
Sally, though it's fun to run in a group, the pear pressure can sometimes make people run way faster then they should. Listen to your bod', fren. (I know, I shouldn't be saying this, but...)
Gordon and runwun are smokin' fast. You guys should get together sometimes...
Fran, how exciting! Hope it will be fast and easy for her .
Tough age group, Tall. Congrats on the PR, roaddrunner (beep beep)
Have a good day everyone.

Re: Sat May 12th Boomer Runs
Hi Boomers, no runs for me today. Thought about just doing a 2 miler to get me over the 40 mile mark, but decided that it would probably be best to wait a few weeks. After my cutback week I think I will just build back up to 35 to 40 miles and stay there with occasional cut backs and just maintain a reasonable base and see if my pace improves.

I think I am going to back out of Evaro and the Missoula marathon. Though I wanted to run Evaro it doesn't fit in with a cutback week and it will probably interefere with base building. With Missoula only about 9 weeks out and not having done any 20+ milers, it would probably be pretty silly to attempt it and I have no desire to be the last one across the line. I suppose if it was a first marathon it would be ok, but now I should know better. Had I been running a steady base of 35 miles throughout the winter I think that it would I would be ready to take on that challenge, but I didn't.

Good Runs All, Larrry

Re: Sat May 12th Boomer Runs
Holy guacamole! What's up with these crazy fast Canadians and native Canadians.

Nice job on the PRs Tall and Gordon. You guys rock!

And then there's my favorite Canadian, Dearest SS. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday. You'll be missed.

Well, I might as well add egret to the list. Not only can she kick my pansy American butt in running, she's incredibly hawt also. You always have an open invitation to come to Portland to quaff a few local ales with me...

Heck, why not...MustangSally, Jura, arf & Canfit, you guys rock too! Oh Canada!!! (must be the hockey playoffs ...)

Oops! Thanks Jura, I knew I'd miss at least one...

Re: Sat May 12th Boomer Runs
sounds like a great race, derrick, but sorry about the rest of it..

Tall, I agree with mc. wish I was that tall.

millbot, sounds dangerous. btw, I'm just getting around to ordering the book aamos mentioned on one of your threads a while ago... 'listen to your pain'. & I copied again the information you shared from your doctor.

it is indeed grate weather for working outside. I had fun weeding under the bushes, once I resigned myself to folding that much.... shades of childhood, dappled shade, other worlds. pretty neat.

side effect... (distant but related) Sadie the bouncy springer is a little iffy with other dogs, although improving. She met a yr. old pitbull that was walking by a few days ago, they sniffed through the fence & she seemed to like him. they walked by again today. I admit a prejudice against pits, due to their breeding, but he seems to be a sweetheart. anyway. he jumped against the gate & it swung open. I lunged to grab sadie, all was fine but in the process I did something to my foot. don't remember what. 2 1/2 toes bled a bit, little toe was numb. I iced it. but it was hours ago, & I'm still limping. the top of my foot is very sore to touch. looking at the left foot, the little toe is separated from the next one, unlike the right foot. hmm. tomorrow is my version of a long run & it matters a lot that I do it. any ideas??

SS, I hope you have a wonderful wonderful trip. minister of silly walks can protect the moss without violence. indecisive? hee.

good job, gordon!
also cfli, tselbs, & others.. too tired to look right now but you know who you are. :-)

eta, 'hello' to jura from yesterday. happy you had a bricklet in the sun today. I hope no ill effects.

About 13 for me today. Scheduled for 21, but feet and right knee started to hurt. Thought it might be best to stop. Feeling lots better this evening.

Re: Sat May 12th Boomer Runs
Nice 5K times out there today and a smokin' fast 10k from Tall! Congrats! That sounded like a killer workout day to me...wow.

SS - Enjoy the trip!

I was fixing a ton a minor electrical things on the house today, so didn't get to run 'til after 6pm. On the plus side, running when the sun is going down is always nice. I did roughly an hour of marathon pace, so it was probably 8 miles. I really didn't time it other than looking at my heart rate...mostly in the low 160s. I worked on my form as much as I could and stretched...all in all a great way to end the day!

Have a great evening all!

Wow, Gordon, you are the Man. A 52-second PR, or whatever it ended up being, is enormous in a 5K, especially when you were already sub-20.
