2 pictures (of the same thing!) are too much but I don't know which one I like.

Re: Tue May 22 Boomer Runs
Morning everyone!

I?ve been gone for several days for my son?s wedding, and I am still exhausted. It was such a good time with friends and family, and the wedding was absolutely beautiful. Many people said it was the most meaningful and enjoyable wedding they had ever been to. Jake surprised his bride by singing her a song and there was hardly a dry eye in the church. The unity candle wouldn't light, but he went to his best man for a pocket knife and took care of that problem in just a few minutes.

I slept in yesterday morning and then managed a short run before work. Hopefully I can get back to running 5 miles every other day. The weather has been so nice here, although a bit windy. Here?s a photo of the couple from their engagement pictures:

Good to see Skip back!
Larry, so sorry about your dog.

Will catch up with everyone later.

Re: Tue May 22 Boomer Runs
Mary, congratulations to your son on his marriage. They certainly make a nice looking couple.

Larry, so sorry to hear about your dog.

Tramps, I always have trouble getting my HR up to where it is supposed to be on tempo runs. A longer warmup definitely helps. For the first few tempo miles, I have to kill myself to get it up and then of course I am toast. I have started just letting it stay down and realizing that it will climb as I get beyond tempo mile 3 or so. Not that I've been doing much tempo lately, but his was info from last summer.

Today was a nice day to run, though a bit windy. Nevertheless, my leg continues to bother me so today was another unpleasant 5 miler. Crossing my fingers for a decent med/long run tomorrow.

Shuffled C25K W3D1 with DS and DH. A perfect post-race shakeout.

Everything's pretty tired and sore. Coach is pulling me off the road for the rest of the week. Oddly, I already feel enough built-up energy to want to go do something. I may swim tomorrow. That seems a harmless way to get moving without aggravating the aggrieved anatomy.

It's been a bad weekend for critters. My heart goes out to you. Storm The Retriever thinks she's having a bad day: DD (9) groomed and trimmed our older dog completely on her own yesterday and did a very fine job, although Storm seems to be aware that one of her ears is cut just a little closer than the other and is pouting as only a Flatcoat b*tch can. Fortunately, DD is not aware of this fact and is Most Proud of Herself.

Re: Tue May 22 Boomer Runs
As always, I appreciate the kind remarks in response to my race report.

skip, it's nice to hear from you. mc, that was a nice 5K and that 10 year old has quite a running future if he chooses to pursue it. sekd, congrats on completing the OHR. Lab, it's nice you got in your workout in spite of the back issue. It's funny with backs, sometimes activity helps and sometimes it really aggravates the situation and you never know which it will be. Tammy, it's nice to have you back from vacation. dg9, sorry that you've got to take a week off for the toe but it's probably for the best. RTB, sorry to hear about your dog. My condolences to you and Kay. Roy, thanks for the nice pictures of MrsRoy in her race. dg9, I liked the pictures of the flowers. Lillies of the Valley are one of the types of flower I associate with my grandfather's house. Starr, it's great that you had a good time at your son's wedding. Congratulations to them. MustangSally, even though it's slower than usual for you, running the C25K with your son and husband has to be special.

Nice long runs for UncleSteve, Robin, hopeful, Evan, sue, pt (fast and in hills) and runwun.

This morning it was quite pleasant, about 50, light wind, and clear. I got in 8 miles in a little under 1:16 for a 9:26 pace.

A good day and good runs for all.

TomS

I'm hoping there is another Mary on this board, otherwise I'm leading a double life! That might answer a lot of questions though.

Larry - I am so sorry about your dog. Just breaks my heart - and poor Kay too. My sympathies.

Eric - you graduated OHR?! Congratulations on such a great accomplishment! Was the last week really tough (60 mins)? What's the HH10K programme? Are you planning to run a 10K race? You are unstoppable now!

Holly, Don't eat gnats until after Memorial Day (that is end of May for Non-USA folks). Gnats aren't ripe until June. I have to remind my children of this fact every summer.

Undoubtedly, the Cleveland Stomach Distress epidemic was caused by ingesting unripened insects.

Starr, my apologies. I guess I'm getting old and forgetful and being on page 2 is unhelpful in that regard.

So many hills and valleys... we have losses of beloved pets and pastors and yet, we also have new beginnings with Starr's son's wedding and the PBJsters building their bike endurance and SueT's springtime and Perch paddling his way to recovery...

I ran/walked today. I nailed it again. Taper time! (snortle)

Re: Tue May 22 Boomer Runs
I need to invest in a better bike, which I knew when I bought this one for $40 last summer.

The nice thing about all the squeeks and squawks, though, is that as I'm riding along the bike path on my lunch break, even walkers and joggers that can't hear my riding partner yelling "bike on your left!" because they're wearing iPods can hear me coming!

I'm supposed to go home in ten minutes, but my legs are still tired from riding at lunch, so I may work a few extra minutes. Also I took a little excursion on my ride in this morning (perfect for a ride or a run, by the way - 40F, dry, no wind) to drop off my music cd's at the library. It was an extra 2 miles or so at the beginning of the ride, so my legs were nicely warmed up by the time I hit the hills.

Unfortunately I have a meeting back in town at 7:00, so I need to hit the road, get home and shower and eat and get back on the road (in my car ) pretty quickly. This will be my last/only hard ride before my 15k run on Saturday. Effort-wise, it's about comparable to my best attempt at a PBJ special. I see rest in my future.

Re: Tue May 22 Boomer Runs
for the first time in almost 2 wks, I ran

I got in 3 treadmill miles at the gym during my lunch. I was planning on 4, but I knew that with showering I'd be cutting it too close to get back to my office. Felt good to run again.

We had a nice vacation last week. This was a surprise Disney trip for our son (age 7.5). He had no idea we were even going on a trip til one hour prior to us leaving for the airport. Then he never knew where we were headed until our shuttle from the airport pulled up to our hotel directly across the street from Disney. He was thrilled - which is really an understatement. We did Disney in 3 days, then stayed with friends in San Diego and did SeaWorld, the Zoo, and the beach. It was a great family vacation.

I tend to agree with Bill and perch. I went through lactate testing a year or so ago and my max HR is 177. If I used 220-age, I'd be at 163 ...quite a difference. I would think you'd be higher than 176. Even though our marathon times might be similar, your pace overall is quite a bit faster than mine at similar heart rates.
