Need Ipod Suggestions

My running playlist is hurting. Any suggestions for fast music to run to especially during races?

Thanks,

Laurie

I-pods? During races? Are you trying to provoke me?

I don't run with mine during races...not that I race much but I sure do love to do long runs listening to a book on it. Occasionally, I have to add another mile because the book is in too good a spot to quit running.

"Yeah, I know what you are getting at and I knew when I posted this I would get heartache from some. But the way I see it is I go to these local charity races not to win but for the fun and camaraderie and to support the cause. I tuck the cord into my shirt. Turn the volume down so I can hear cars, other races, course directors, birds, whatever. I pay attention to where I am going and always keep the big picture. "

I hear this from everyone who runs with an Ipod. My question, how come you can't hear "on your left?"

Re: Need Ipod Suggestions
Here are some on my ipod. Not sure what your taste is.

I wouldn't call most of these super fast songs, but good for general aerobic running. I find I run faster to slower music, actually. Some of my best runs have been while I've played Alexi Murdoch, really mellow stuff. You might find the same if you try it.

Better Than - John Butler Trio (also check out Treat Yo Mama and Daniella; oh heck, anything by JBT is terrific)
Into the Ocean - Blue October
New Shoes - Paolo Nutini
Hamoa Beach - Gomez

Some of my "I am woman, hear me roar" songs:

You Know I'm No Good - Amy Winehouse (bluesy; love it)
Fidelity; Better - Regina Spektor (another great CD).
Little Plastic Castles - Ani DiFranco, great kick butt song

Here's are a few truly fast songs:

The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song - Flaming Lips
No Bad News - Patty Griffin (from her wonderful new CD)
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
Suddenly I See - KT Tunstall
Soul Meets Body - Death Cab for Cutie
O Valencia - Decemberists

Anyway, just some ideas. Changing up the playlist once in a while is always a good thing.

Re: Need Ipod Suggestions
Laurie,

My MP3 player has a huge variety of music on it, Elton John, Christina Aquilara, Pink, Keane, Steely Dan, Yes, Rob Thomas, Mary J. Blige, etc. I don't particulary care if my music is fast or slowish when I'm running, I just like music. I check out CDs from the library and download songs from them a lot. Especially good are some collections called Grammy Winners 2006, 2005, 2004, etc, or Now That's What I Call Music 2006, 2005, 2004, etc - these are CDs that have a variety of artists and types of music on them, from hip/hop to rock.

I have an ipod question, when you are charging it, the screen says 'do not disconnect!'

Why? Is it safe to disconnect it anyway?

Ilene -- go to the tool bar at the bottom of your screen (or top) and scroll over to where it gives you the message "Safely Remove Hardware." Click on that, and the "Do Not Disconnect" will go away on your ipod.

My kids set the settings on Itunes so it will tell you to not disconnect while it is synching.

That was awkward....I meant, you can change the setting on itunes to tell you to not disconnect as a safety precaution while charging, or you can turn that setting off and it will only tell you to not disconnect while it is synching.

Re: Need Ipod Suggestions
Try techno music it works for me especially anything by Luke Slater plus some Timo Maas and of course Fatboy Slim.

On the classical side it has to be Wagner.

Music does work as when I'm on my turbo trainer I've noticed it does make a difference.

Never used an I Pod in a race though or on my bike.

I would have thought it would be a distraction during shorter races. I was planning on trying it this year on a half marathon but my Achilles is playing up so I'm just cycling at the moment.
