Grandma's?

Let the taper begin!

I am an occasional reader of this forum, so maybe I missed it. Are any of you Boomers doing Grandma's marathon? I just ran my last long run today (am having a celebratory beer and pretzel as I type). I did the Frederick MD half marathon as a warm up race, and really enjoyed it (despite the shuttle bus "issues"). At the race I saw a woman wearing a Boomers T-shirt. What a great way to meet other Boomers!

Here is my story:
5K - about 24 min.
10K - 50 min.
1/2 marathon - 1:50
marathon 4:20 (yeah, I know)

I would like to BQ (this would mean 4:05), but can't seem to hang in there for the longer race. I did lots of 16 - 18 milers this spring, a 23 and a 25, 3 half marathons, and usually average 35 - 45 miles per week, but have always run out of gas at the end of a marathon. Any suggestions?
Laurie

Re: Grandma's?
I'll be running Grandma's. I'm kind of a lurker here on B&B,
but like to read RR's and posting to monthly Boomer Miles. I'll be running somewhere around 3:10, depending on weather and my conditioning.
I'll be looking for some of that Hermosaboy support.....hint, hint.

I will do my best to pick you out of the crowd. Will PROBABLY do what we did last year. We start at Mile 22 and run the course backwards until we hit someone from MN RED. Run with them for a while and then go back and pick up others. Repeat multiple times...

Will definitely get in a long run that day.

Re: Grandma's?
Laurie,

I know people who are running it, one near your pace, but I'm not. My advice is to not let the "committee" hermosaboy talks about (i.e., negative thoughts) get the upper hand. You can go faster at the end than you feel like going. Stay hydrated and fuel up with gels or whatever, so you keep the cramps at bay, and try to stay with the people trying to pass you. Visualize the finish clock displaying the time you would like it to say as you approach, then make it happen! Good luck.

Start slow -- finish fast!!!

Lemon Drop hill is not that bad. Watch out for all the turns at the finish, they can be a bit annoying.

This is a course that you can take advantage of. Run within yourself for the first 20. The race begins at that point!!!

If you see me on the course -- call out to me. I will most likely be wearing something very similar to my profile picture...
