I don't normally listen to the Black Eyed Peas but I love "Pump It" - especially to run to. Let's see, what else... "Sunday Bloody Sunday" - U2 ... and "Living on a Prayer" - Bon Jovi (this somehow became my college softball team's pregame pump up anthem)
I listen to it all I really do! My iPod usually freaks people out when I have it on shuffle because it can switch from Juice Newton to Led Zeppelin.....This morning I ran to the Thriller album & had a really great run....I think I ran fast so that other runners passing would not hear that I had Michael Jackson blasting from my ear buds....
Guilty pleasure or not, music make the run that much better for me.
Cmitre - Golddigger and the Killers' When we were young are two of my favorite running songs as well.
Along those lines, Cake's The Distance is very motivational and appropriate.
On a completely different When I was in high school our teams used to warm up You Shook Me all Night Long so that's a weirdly nostalgic bit of motivational rock as well.
Newer favorites are Shipping up to Boston by the Dropkick Murphys and Brain Stew and Holiday by Green Day. I used to LOVE American Idiot by GD as well but listened to it way to often in 05.
I never run with my iPod outdoors. Only when indoor on the treadmill. My tastes vary, but I do like to run to the punk, punk-y genres. Some of my favorite running songs include: "Run, Run, Run" by the Velvet Underground, "Swimsuit Issue" by Sonic Youth, "Rise Above" by Black Flag, and "I Don't Give a . . . ." by Peaches.
My music choices depend on my mood. If I really need to be pumped up and and excited, I'll try Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Sometimes I need something a little more laid back to keep me relaxed and I'll listen to Kenny Chesney's "When the Sun Goes Down" and songs like that. I am also fond of KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See", Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" and "White Wedding", Bon Jovi's "It's my Life", Bryan Adam's "Summer of '69" and "Get off my Back", and New Found Glory's version of "Glory of Love" if I want a real kick in the pants. Essentially I go with what stikes my fancy.
Lately my favorite running mix has been:
1. Lonely No More/ Rob Thomas
2. Fat Bottom Girls/ Queen
3. Harder to Breathe/ Maroon 5
4. U + UR Hand/ Pink
5. Sexy Back/ Justin Timberlake
6. Pump It!/ Black Eyed Peas
7. Here We Go Again/ OK Go! (Because it reminds me of the video)
8. Move Along/ The All American Rejects
9. Baby Got Back/ Sir Mix Alot
10. My Humps/ Black Eyed Peas
11. Summer Love/ Justin Timberlake
12. What Goes Around Comes Around/ Justin Timberlake
Hands down, my favorite right now is Eminem's "Lose Yourself". if that doesn't get you knocking out a painless and quick mile nothing will. FYI...i'm no hard core rap lover, far from it...but this song is powerful stuff. I recommend you save it for race day...very possibly too powerful for most training days. try it.
I'm jealous. I'd love to run with music but live in the country and run on twisty, two lane roads with about 12 inches of shoulder. I know exactly where to leap should a car come round the bend and not see me. Have to keep my ears open if I want to run and make it back home. I guess it saves the cost of an iPod.
