Need help with a heel bruise

I need some advice on what to do about a heel bruise. It is actually on the back of the heel (not the bottom of the foot), just below the achilles tendon. I first noticed it about 6 weeks ago immediately after a half marathon. It seems to bother me a little more each week - I have been able to run on it but have recently begun to favor it while running. Also, I just started soaking it a couple of times a day in ice water and that doesn't seem to help much beyond an hour or so. So.....I'm all ears!

Re: Need help with a heel bruise
.........most running injuries are due to the ''Too's''......

.........too far
...........too fast
............too hard of a surface

.........if you can identify which one it is, change that part and you should get some relief........

............hope you feel better............

Re: Need help with a heel bruise
Let me guess...it hurts like **** first thing in the morning and loosens up after walking around a bit. Sounds like your planter fascia. If you don't relieve the tension on the PF, you'll run the risk of developing a bone spur at this location. It's the body's repair reaction. Make sure you have adequate arch support in your shoes. I would even consider taping (see link). Ice and anti-inflamatories after run. This is a slow healing injury, but shouldn't stop you completely. Just be patient. Good luck.

Re: Need help with a heel bruise
Think about seeing a doctor: I had what I thought was just a heel bruise two years ago, and it turned out that I had done some damge to the bone and ended up in a boot for three weeks.
