Scranton PA Boomers and advice

I'll be in Scranton, PA next week for a couple of days and will certainly run there. Two questions:

1. Not likely, but are there any B&B'ers there? Would be fun to run with someone.

2. If not, is anyone familiar with this place? Where would it be good to run?

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks. Spareribs

I'm 139.97 miles away. Ribs breathes a sigh of relief...........
I checked their running club site and it is less than not very active. Hope someone else can offer good advice.

This park offers 5 miles of trails.

I found this group of dedicated athletes. I am sure that you will have a good run with them. Try to keep up with Dwight.

Re: Scranton PA Boomers and advice
Ribs,

I live about 2 hours away. My "little" brother lives just outside Scranton. He's a farrier, works mostly with race horses at Pocono Downs.

Scranton is noted for several things
depleted coal mines
the Steamtown museum dedicated to coal burning locomotives
hills from whence they used to dig the coal.

Plan on some really good hill runs. Alternately, I can have my brother arrange for you run to run on the local track.... Nice half mile oval with a dirt surface. There will be some other runners training there - all of them pulling sulkies. The locker rooms are a bit rustic, no heat, cold water hoses. However, your changing area gets mucked out daily and you'll get all the corn mash you can eat.

Let me know which days you'll be in Scranton.

Oh, yes... some more advice. Be conservative in your running outfits. The town is pretty blue-collar, lots of out-of-work miners, truck drivers, railroad folks, some small time farmers. They do NOT have a cosmopolitan worldview. And a good number of them have been inter-breeding up in the mountains for several generations.

The sight of a grown man running the backroads dressed in yellow-scarlet coordinated running outfit will certainly generate attention you won't enjoy.

Oh, I just remembered, I used to have some cousins who lived in Pennsylvania.

But they've all moved now.

I did my best to provide a useful answer. It would be worth a drive from anywhere just to have a gaze, but I have a really big race next week and the palpitations could have an adverse effect on my time.
