USA takes Gold Cup... good or lucky?

I was at the USA vs Canada match last week in which the U.S. men just barely got by with the win. With less than a minute of stoppage time remaining in the match, Canada put one in the back of the net -- only to find they were called offside. My seats were not in a position where I could accurately judge the play, but from the replay I have to admit, it looked like a good goal to me. What do you think -- was Canada robbed or was the goal no good?
Hey I have a question.
I saw that on Wed 7/27 Mexico played Brazil. What was that game for? I didn't hear anything in the news about a big match coming up and Brazil/Mexico would usually get some press build up?
Mexico upset Brazil in the Copa América. It is the main international football tournament for South America and is organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body. It is being held in Venezuela between June 26 and July 15, 2007. Not much time to catch their breath from the Gold Cup...
Luck works itself out over time (bad and good). I agree, the Canadian "goal" shouldn't have been called back, but over the course of the tournament I'm sure the U.S. had plenty of calls go against them as well.
I saw the end of the US/Canada game. That was so wrong. How could the ref or line judge miss the call? Is there no way in soccer to appeal a call? Can the refs be fined or demoted for bad calls like this? Has there ever been discussion of instant replay in soccer? I'm sure all the so-called purists would be against it but if you're a Canada fan it probably doesn't sound like such a bad idea right about now.
There's no appeal process to overturn calls during a game. The only way a call can be overturned is if the linesman speaks with the referee and decides an incorrect call was made, but the coach can't appeal (they can scream though!). As for instant replay, I don't know if it's being considered in world soccer, but it is a current topic of dicsussion in the English Premier League. The traditionalists think the idea is terrible, but it could really help the game. After all, why not use the advances in technology to better the sport?
I would have to disagree. I'm a traditionalist and referees are part of the game. Just like any player, if the referee makes a mistake that's just part of the game and you have to live with it. One of the most historic goals ever scored (Hand of God) would have been turned back if we had instant replays.
