The 12 youth teams (Boys and Girls U14-U19) that advance from the four Regionals to the National Champs July 24-29 at Frisco, TX have been decided. Go to http://championships.usyouthsoccer.org/ for more. California clubs continue to show their strength as 7 of the 12 teams from region IV (West) hail from Cal South clubs. Two advanced from Cal-North clubs. Unlike most other sports, the best youth soccer players/teams match up in USYS sanctioned club tournaments rather than middle or high school run programs.
Softball has a lot of talent concentrated in Southern California too.
I checked out the site real quick and didn't see a full list. I was interested to know how many teams are from the St. Louis area. Growing up, St. Louis and the surrounding area was a hotbed for youth soccer. St. Louis University has historically dominated. Was curious as to if this is still reflected in the 2007 National Championship qualifying teams.
Not sure how St. Louis is represented now, but I played competitive Soccer growing up (until about 10 years ago) and we frequently saw teams from the St. Louis area when we'd travel to big tournaments. It always surprised me then because I knew we had so much talent in Southern California and Missouri seemed like more of a Football state in my mind.
