First try at tri - bike question

I signed up in my age group and later was told my bike is a "hybrid" and I should have signed up for the mountain bike group. What will using a hybrid versus a road bike mean? Any help would be appreciated...should I try and switch groups? Thanks

Re: First try at tri - bike question
A hybrid is a cross between a road and mountain bike so you will sit more upright on your bike which leads to more wind resistance. Generally your tires will be wider therefore you will have more surface area/more resistance while pedaling in comparison to a road bike. Its not worth worrying about -- you'll do fine with a hybrid in either category. Just have fun with it for your first one.

Re: First try at tri - bike question
I did my first tri on my hybrid. It has road tires so is NOT a mountain bike. In my first and second tris, I saw road bikes, tri bikes, hybrids, mountain bikes and comfort bikes. Enjoy as many tris as you want with your hybrid! When you are ready for more speed, move up to a road bike/tri bike!!
