Boomers in Vegas

As many of you know, I was in Las Vegas last week for my son's Far West Regionals soccer tournament. They'd won the Alaska State Cup last August, and the grand prize was a chance to go melt in the desert in June 2007. They did pretty well, but didn't advance past the prelims. Oh well, it was a wonderful opportunity for them and everyone seemed to have a good time.

The non-soccer highlight for me was meeting Vista129 who was there for business and personal reasons. We e-mailed a bit before he left and I'd given him the schedule of games and directions to the fields. It was so cool to turn around early into the first game, and there he was!

I hope that turns out as my camera is not very good and I've never posted pictures before. (Using Hally's instructions off the Boomer Wiki to try it!)

I did most of my runs on a treadmill while there, to avoid the stifling heat. But did get out for a morning 5.2 miles by the soccer fields the second day, and an early morning run/walk down the Strip and back the day we left. Joey is a lot of fun, nice guy and we had such a good conversation I hardly noticed the time (and miles) going by. For my first Boomer meeting (outside of the local guy NB), it was a hugh success (at least I thought so... I think Joey would agree)!

Wow, you are a looker. And after seeing those arms, I don't think I want to arm-wrestle you.

You both look fabulous. Glad you got to meet, wish I had known you better when I was in AK last year I would have definitely driven there from Denali for a meetup.

Great photo! I love the way Boomers hook up at random locations - part of what makes this forum so special is how friendly and wonderful the people are. Thanks for posting the photo. Now that you know how to do it, I expect to see more from you.

Re: Boomers in Vegas
Thanks Erika for posting this picture. I am glad we had your friend take this.

It was fun to meet another Boomer running friend. We accidently discovered here in the daily thread just a couple of days before the trip that Erika (Alaska) would be in Vegas the same time that I (Virginia) would be there. I love watching kids sporting events so when I found out the times and location of the soccer tournamant, I made my plan to go.

It was funny to be standing there at the soccer field looking to see if I could figure out who Erika was, when she turned, looked at me and said....."Joey?".

The Alaska soccer team had a difficult game since they were playing the defending national champions in this first game while also playing in heat that probably was a shock to their northern accustomed young bodies. The other team could certainly connect "on side" with their passes while in full motion and scored 3 quick goals that set the stage for the game. However, this gritty Alaskan team played EXTREMELY well in the second half and proved they were a good team. In the next couple of games they definitely showed their ability with a win and a close loss. I was sorry I was only able to be there for the first game.

I met both of Erika's sons, and they are both nice looking boys. It was fun for me to be around the family dynamics for even this brief time.

It was fun for Erika and me to run/walk the "Strip" on the last day that she was in Vegas. I don't have anyone locally to run with usually, so this was a special treat for me. Besides, to run with such a nice, pretty lady does wonders for my image!!!. Erika is a beautiful lady, having a lovely personality, a contagious enthusiasm and stunning "toned" looks.

Thanks again Erika, I appreciate your friendship.

I'm with Vista and can only hope you get delayed in a Seattle stopover sometime for a run with the Seattle contingent.

Re: Boomers in Vegas
Evan, it's always nice to hear of boomer meetings. Congratulations to your son's team for getting as far as they did. Not many teams got that far. Thanks for posting the picture of you and vista.
