Although I've never used it, I have heard that it is one of the best ones. Ray "rbmoose" used it while recovering from his many stress fractures, and came back running strong every time. The big guy who used to go by "Mikey The Pig" used it a lot too even when not injured. He weighs over 200 lbs and was running marathons in 2:40's.

Fredurie posts "AM 5 @ 6:40 to 6:10 ( HR 120 to 136 )"

As a comparison; last muggy night 6 miles 8:00 avg w/ some medium hills (hr 125 -133). Got a ways to go before I sleep.

This morning 5.75 miles easy @ 7:50 avg. without hrm.

Fred, there's no need to apologize for the "mediocrity" comment. It was taken in jest and certainly wasn't taken personally (though it applies).

I know that many swear by Low HR training and others' just swear about it! Cool.

If nothing else, it got me through last Summer (and this Summer so far) and up to 70 mpw (at the max.) without any injuries or aches at all. None to shabby for a newbie.

Denton's advice to a 16:58 5K runner gives me headache.

Way too complex for a simpleton like me.

KISS (Keep it simple stupid)

Re: July 50 Plus Training and Racing
Hi everyone!! Heel was getting better, now it is worse and I did everything I was supposed to!!! Go figure. But, still plugging away.

Trying out new pool/gym that is connected to a local hotel. Didn't get there till late yesterday, and the pool was filled with kids. Not surprised at that, and managed to get 20 min of aqua jogging in before one of the kids decided to hawk one up and drop it into the pool...ewwwww. I got out.

Went back today, but stayed inside today. 20 min (2 miles) on the elliptical and 15 min. (4 miles) on the bike. This is progress as just a mere 2 weeks ago it hurt to use the elliptical. I take my first swim lesson on Friday.

Mr. Ribs, get in the pool. You will get better. (or upgrade to first class)

Fred: that workout gave me a headache just reading it. Will you come show me how to do it?????

Good runs all....even the turtle ones. At least your running.

GG, come back. You can still post even when your injured. I do

Wednesday - Cloudy and 70 degrees, pretty humid too.

6.04 miles - 49:31 - (8:11)

Avg HR 133 / Max 152

This was mildly progressive with a strong .25 mile finish for fun and for practice!

Re: July 50 Plus Training and Racing
Tuesday

5 miles easy with 4 x 100 strides the last mile.

Wednesday

6 miles total with 6 x 1000 m @ tempo with 2 minute jog between

I'm begining to think running is a lot like the golf swing, effortless power, or powerless effort. Form is everything...

Re: July 50 Plus Training and Racing
Discovered an all-comers meet at a track a mile away, so ran the 800. Very laid back affair, although wore spikes. Not 2 laps but 2 plus because the track is 380 meters. 2:18.12. Haven't run that short a race in a good 30 years.

How laid back? Kid who beat me was a high schooler. The balance of the race were under 10. I beat em all. It actually could be the basis for a nice local track series in the years ahead; this was the first effort.

Creepy site today in NYC: abandoned flip flops in the middle of 42nd Street. My office is 3 blocks from yesterday's explosion, but I worked from home because we had some potential flooding issues yesterday. Glad I was.
