I have a few trips lined up in the near future -- and I know all too well how fast summer flies by, but I'm getting anxious to hit the road. I've been researching and planning to bide my time. Now, I want to ask all you active folks out there: where are you headed and where have you been?
July
1st week - East coast tour: MA to NYC
August
8/11 - Mt. Disappointment 50 mile race
September
Labor Day Weekend - Yosemite
21st - Sedona, AZ
29th - Noble Canyon 50K

August 11th is quickly approaching. Is the Mt. Disappointment 50 outside of LA?... and how goes the gearing up for it?
Yes it is Trish
A week from Saturday in fact. The race takes place in the San Gabriel Mountains located within the San Angeles National Forest. This is northeast of LA and about a mile above the city. I'm excited because the night before the race, I'll be camping out and there is a meteor shower, called the Perseids, that will be happening that night. I'm feeling as good as can be expected for a race of this length. I've focused more on cross training and less on a high-volume of running this time around so I'm excited to work out the kinks in my overall endurance regimen. 50 miles seems far, but it all becomes relative once you're out there going after it. Its going to be a long day, its going to be hot, its going to be dry, its going to hurt and I'm going to give it all I've got.

A nice suggestion I got from a friend was to head to the east to South East Asia, particularly Penang Island in Malaysia. Penang Island and particular it's main city Georgetown had recently achieved the prestigious Unesco World Heritage status. I have friends who have visited there before and have only nice things to say about it. The people there are friendly, it is safe, weather is fantastic, shopping is great and beaches are pristine....and most importantly it's relatively cheap as well to holiday there.
